Markov is not going anywhere. Keep in mind the trade has to be somewhat similar in salary. Mtl is looking to get bigger. Your looking at King, Stoll, Tiffoli, Clifford, Frattin.

There is alot of space cap on Mtl side. At the deadline, both team will have enough space to not be bothered by salaries.

I was trying to be polite, tactful. Montreal management knows that they do not want to do an 8 year lock in with Subban at $8.5m. They also know the pack is bearing down on the front runners and they will be challenged for the playoff spot they are now sitting in.

The team would move Subban for size and grit up front. But the fans will not tolerate. So, I am not surprised Montreal is looking at big trades (not involving Subban) to get bigger. Or, for the right deal, Bergevin just might pull the trigger and deal Subban for a huge return.

What's everyone's favourite scotch? I'm looking for some new ones to try, something around $100. Doesn't matter smokey or not, just something new.

Mtl is not trading Subban. No matter how you look at it they would lose in the trade unless they got someone better than him in return. Mtl has been waiting for a superstar other then a goalie for over 20 years, they are not going to trade him away.

Mtl is an average team at best. They are a playoff bubble team and will go as far a Price carries them. Without Price they are a lottery team.

Subban (RFA) for Voynov (long-term contract).
LA gets a PP specialist and star performer, but have to sign him to a hefty contract.
MTL gets a more reasonable contract for a very solid defenseman with star potential. And the Russian connection encourages Markov to resign at a discount.
Some picks and prospects may fly either way...
This is what my Crystal (Meth) Ball told me.

Exactly!

First, Markov is not signing at a discount.

2nd, Mtl being one of the richest clubs in the NHL is not really worried about paying Subban big $$$$ especially that the cap is going up.

Mtl is looking at King.

I am inclined to believe you are correct. The fans and media will not tolerate the trade of Subban. I suspect the coach and GM would like to move him, but it would be a public relations nightmare. So, he is likely going to get the huge contract making him a Hab for another 8 years. You now that Bergevin is not happy.

Finding a top pairing dman that can bring as much offense as Subban does is about as hard as finding a real #1 Center.

There's no way Therrien and Bergevin even think about moving him. None.

So you figure if Subban played in any other market the coach and GM would like to move him? You're (frank)ing hilarious.

I don't believe that Bergevin is not happy. Therrien, if he had his way would maybe move Subban, but we all know that Therrien's shelf life is 3 years.

Now if you where to explore trading Subban, what do you think they should get in return that would make them winners in the trade. You have to start with a big name.

Then ask yourself what would be the likelihood of that happening.

About the the only team out there with the right pieces to trade for Subban would be a team like the AVS IMO. They could move Mackinnon in the deal.

You beat me. Avs are loaded up front but need help on the back end. But, I doubt Avs would do the deal even though they have a desperate need to improve on the back end.

What does "first" mean?

If it's just that you are the first to say something, you are a moron! Please tell me it means something productive and I'll apologize.

It is about the impact of paying him $8m. You can afford the $8m but Bergevin also knows it becomes a benchmark for Galchenyiuk and every other contract he signs over the next five years.

$8M won't seem like much for a player of his calibre in a couple of years. Also, i'm pretty sure the Habs will be quite happy in Galchenyuk plays himself into a situation where he can command that type of money.
