It is about the impact of paying him $8m. You can afford the $8m but Bergevin also knows it becomes a benchmark for Galchenyiuk and every other contract he signs over the next five years. - spatso
Same as any other team. If Galchenyuk becomes a top forward in the league is is an MVP finalist, he will deserve top $$$ as well. Until them, he will sign a bridge contract next and will hopefully break the bank on his 3rd contract. |

Subban (RFA) for Voynov (long-term contract).
LA gets a PP specialist and star performer, but have to sign him to a hefty contract.
MTL gets a more reasonable contract for a very solid defenseman with star potential. And the Russian connection encourages Markov to resign at a discount.
Some picks and prospects may fly either way...
This is what my Crystal (Meth) Ball told me. - AlfieFever
Subban for Mitchell and we have a deal. |

Not likely. But conceptually it is a starting point. - spatso
Agreed!
Momesso reported after having a sit down with Bergevin that they have a possible trade available if he wants to pull the trigger. Problem is he does not like the years left on the contract he is acquire ring. He's not looking at a blockbuster, he's looking at adding parts. |

Impossible to say who is an untouchable but the names Pacioretty, Subban, Price, Galchenyuk are probably right now the only guys who simply cannot be touched.
With that said, if it's a rumour then I doubt anything happens here because MTL is so closed lipped but for arguments sake i wonder if that big piece from LA is Kopitar?
Kopitar is a great talent, big forward and he was a player the Habs were huge on in 2005 when they ultimately took Price. I also know that the Habs have been big on Clifford as well.
So I ask if this makes sense?
Kopitar and Clifford to Montreal in exchange for Tomas Plekanec, Lars Eller, rights to Dalton Thrower, choice of Tim Bozon or Sebastien Collberg and a high pick? |

Team salaries are often a matter of scale. Your star player gets top dollar and other salaries are informed by the top contract. So, what happens if Gancheniuk becomes Montreal's best player. And, players and insiders do not have nearly as positive view of Subban's game. What looks like a good contract can become a real problem, especially if another Dman comes along and displaces Subban as the top Dman. |

Sometimes this stuff reminds me of psychic readings.. things are thrown to see if they stick. Now if it's a small trade he can say that the smoke wasn't rising as high as he thought and if it's a big trade he can say the roof was on fire. |

Kings want to add scoring, tell me who on the Habs that LA would want other that Patches than can score? Unless Habs are gonna deal Gallagher for size in Clifford. |

Glenmorangie is scotch. And yes, they do have some nice selections.
A couple of other nice scotches are Cardhu at about $75, Bowmore 18 at about $120. - golfingsince

It's about as productive as your comment.

Two teams are talking (e4). Don't GMs talk to each other on a regular basis, like daily? I'm pretty sure I can say Murray (OTT) is talking to Murray (BUF) (TonyFernandez5) and I would be right. |

Using comparable contracts and precedents in order to extract the most out of contract negotiations has been used since the dawn of the NHLPA. |

Eklund: Discussions Ongoing Between Kings and Habs (e4) - Eklund
Wait. Is this an e4 that teams are talking to each other?
What the hell is that? So it's not an e5? either they're talking or they're not
So you are pretty sure that the Habs and Kings are talking on the phone but not 100% sure?
I find this hilarious (e5) |
