I believe the oilers see if they can land ekblad in the draft before they make any drastic decisions on going after a defensmen, especially if its going to cost them yak or ebs

Thees adeal makeh no senseh!

Letang offers skating offense... but he has trouble getting it out of his own end.

Edmonton's problem... getting it out of their own end (and inconsistency).

It doz not fitz...

Eberle offers... speed, stickhandling, clutch goals...

Pittsburgh's problem... inconsistency...

Eberle does not offer consistency...

It doz not fitz...

- archromat

Yeah really inconsistent only leading the eastern conference

Let's just kill this right now.

Letang is a very good dman but not even close to the type the oil need. Period.

We need guys that can win a battle on the boards, clear the front of the net and make a first pass. Not puckrushing guys. We have 3 puck movers.

Letang is not a fit!

I'm sure you've mentioned it before, but who are your top 5 preferences?

Are you (frank)ing retarded? No way Yakupov brings back more in a trade right now. I hope your ass falls off.

Maybe it's just me ... but Letang would seem to be the exact type of d-man the Oilers wouldn't want. They need a stud shut down guy that can anchor the group, rather than another risk taker.

I think Letang will eventually be moved. If not why the limited NTC to 15 teams of his choice? However moving him before that contract takes place to EDM is a huge slap in the face. I would like to see it happen, but it probably wont.

There's no way that Letang gets traded, but I get the timing as the boys are in Edmonton and this prospective Letang trade at least makes logical sense.

Eberle is an above average two-way forward with a huge contract.

Letang (who is only 26 - still young in D-man years) has a chance to be a generational player if his hockey IQ even comes close to catching up with his talent level and work ethic.

And the only prospect that has a chance of replacing Letang's puck carrying skills is Pouilot, and he's nowhere near Letang at this stage.

And Scuderi does have oven mitts for hands.

- hardnosed

Letang is like Hemsky if Hemsky was a Dman. He will show you flashes of Brilliance but is bad defensively and is made of glass.

interesting offer.....Not sure Edm would want to move Eberle , but inorder to get a player like Letang thats what it going to take.
Letang has had a rough season by his standards but was one of the best offensive d man in the league just last year....he was more then a point a game guy and is exactly what the oilers need....a true leader on the back end. Eberle has only been average this year (for him)....to me he is a point a game guy when he is on.
It may not happen in season, as the pens are probably the best team in the east and have stanley cup aspirations....trading Letang for another scoring threat ? don't see it.
For Edm I am not sure how their higher ups veiw their team.....they are basement feeders yet again.....tough to watch a proud franchise suck year after year...eventually they either need to make a trade using a top 6 guy or hope some of the young D men start to shore up the glaring weekness ...there D....not sure but can Letang play goal as well????

Agree. And for that guy who said Letang has the chance to be, or already is, a generational talent is an idiot, sorry man. Letang is good, that's it. He's not even elite there bud. The Oilers actually need Shea Weber, or someone of the like, who can move the puck, yet also be a number 1 shutdown.

While I'm not trying to argue with you, I bet Kris could play a more conservative game if asked to. New team, new gameplan, but you're right. They could use more muscle. I'm interested in Ference's #'s though, those aren't on the chart, and he fits the mold of what we're talking about(obviously more couldn't hurt, just curious).

Edmontons defence is a fire drilll against a strong forecheck. Every team that beats us knows this and they all do it. How does Letang fix that?

They need someone that can play 25+ effective minutes a game and push the other dmen to the amount of minutes they should be playing.

easy he's a puck mover....he's smart, he's quick, he's played with Top end talent and knows how to get them the puck....something that doesn't happen in EDM enough ..... Letang would help any D in the NHL...not just Edm.

Letang is a net positive defensively. His problems occur in the transition game, and it's giveaways. But defensively, he's got a mean streak, he's good positionally (except in the transition game, as mentioned), and he's got make up speed. He'll often make an exceptional defensive play and then follow it up with a boneheaded turnover.

This is going to be fun. Oiler fans overvalue Eberle by extreme amounts. Almost insane amounts. And Penguin fans are bipolar over Letang.

Just look at the responses so far. A #1 defensema who is a Norris Trophy nominee is not enough to acquire a guy who has scored 30 goals once in his career.

On the other hand we have Penguin fans who believe that a 30 goal forward is not enough to acquire a defenseman that many of us have all but purchased his plane ticket out of town.

At his contract and likely trading price it wouldn't be enough. They have guys that can move the puck, what they don't have is a guy that can calm down the dzone coverage.
