just checking some oiler drafting stuff, traded away the 2nd round pick that became Lucic for a rental in Samsonov, brutal
- DDM-Coga

We went to the cup final that year and nobody can predict 2nd rounders turning into the player Lucic has become. We had another 2nd rounder that year and picked Petry but nice try.

Point was that you guys would kill for a guy like him now, would be the perfect player for the Oil, always a kick in the nuts when you look back at trades like that.

Avs traded for Tommy Salo for a pick, which you guys got Gilbert from. Or when they Avs traded for Fluery and the Flames got Regher from it. No difference.

The 2 that hurt currently are Boychuk to the bruins and bournival to the canadiens...no reason for the Avs burning them on stop gap players during bad team years

No way. He makes Hemsky look like an ironman.

Or Crosby. How many games has he missed in his career?

I don't consider head injuries in the same realm as pulled groins and broken bones.

You're a sensitive little guy huh?

Apparently the coaching staff are impressed with Maata. Nice read.

Good stuff there... I'm just holding out hope that with team canada out of the mix, Letang's game settles down and he puts together a solid second half of the season.

As though Maatta is almost offended by the concept of losing possession of a puck or losing track of a forward, the teenager almost always snatches the puck right back.

“It's pretty amazing,” Reirden said. “Watch him when he loses a puck. Just watch him. Watch the battle level rise. He's different than other players in a lot of ways, and that's one of the big ones. It's imbedded in him. When he gets beat, the puck still has a way of staying around him. And he'll win the next battle every time.”

I like that, and have noticed it at times. Good stuff.

How does having the same D-core next season and having Ekblad ( if you even draft him) playing in OKC make the team more competitive as opposed to incorporating two skilled D?
- Whiskey-Tango

It doesn't. But you are failing to acknowledge the loss of Enerle in this transaction, who is a big part of this team, and when this ship turns around, will be a part of the solution. Imagine if you guys traded one of the twins at 22 years old.

I just don't have patience for stupidy. Its hockey. Its a tough game. poop happens. I guess you must think that Stamkos is made of glass now after an unfortunate play. Malkin has missed big stretches as well...

Yeah, that was one of those aha! moments where you realize the guys skill and tenacity are part of his package. pretty cool for a 19 year old away from home and in a foreign country. I know I would be nowhere near as mature at that age. God knows what I'd be looking for. Adventure of some type for sure.

Top 5 pick and top prospect. Pretty healthy return for a guy who at that time only had 1 year left on his deal

Eberle for Letang better include an Edmonton 1st rd pick and a prospect as well. Only player on Oilers roster worthy of one for one deal is Hall.

Kris Letang for Jordan Eberle

I dont understand why this would make sense for the Pens, they dont exactly lack offense and the oilers could use more defensive type D, theydont have to trade for Letang thwy just have to wait for Schultz to get a bit more experience and he'll do that role just fine, also currently Eberle alone would not be worth Letang imo

You're one of the most uneducated posters on these boards so good job
- Ihatebrianburke

Player A in 43 games ... 9 goals, 8 assists, 17 points -24
Player B in 45 games ... 5 goals, 16 assists, 21 points +22

You tell me champ.

Where am I wrong? Yak is playing poor hockey? Looks like it. Niskanen is a pending UFA? That is correct.

Let's see

Player A- 20 years old, 1st overall draft pick, plays for the lowly Oilers, led all rookies in points last year, rights owned for another 5 years
Player B-27 years old and plays for one of the best teams in the league, pending UFA

Yup you're still a horrible poster and it is widely known on this site. Keep trying though

Because pens have a plethora of d prospects. Also letang is always on the PK as well as matched against the other teams top lines.

the problem with EDM is simple. they tried to take the Pittsburgh, Washington, and Chicago approach to rebuilding and try to draft a couple top 5 picks and build around them. the problem is that the guys they drafted in the top 5 simply aren't good enough to lead teams like Toews, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Kane, Backstrom, etc. Guys like Hall, RNH, and Yakupov cant touch those guys. The problem is an inferior player problem which causes the current culture of losing on that team. EDM fans can be in denial all they want, I know, trust me I have been a fan of a baseball fan that just had its first winning season in 20 years. The oilers seem to have some young guns waiting to progress, and that's great. but that means another 2-3 years of losing. oilers need to go big or wait for their guys to come up and even then there is no guarantee.

The Letang-Eberle swap has always been a popular discussion but to me it makes little sense for either team. Kris Letang is not a leader. He doesn't like the media and is pretty shy. He wouldn't thrive in the spotlight that EDM would put him under. He is a lot better and comfortable when he is behind 2 other star players and really doesn't have to be "the guy". If EDM would want to trade a star, trade him for a package, not a one guy.

For Pittsburgh it makes no sense but Eberle isn't the problem. You could look at the fact that Dupuis is getting old and Kunitz isn't getting any younger, but right now, our top 6 isn't the problem, our bottom 6 is the problem. We would be better off getting one or two young bottom 6 guys who have the potential to one day play top 6 minutes and maybe get a first round pick or a good forward prospect out of the deal.

Getting Eberle would be the "sexy" more and I know people like it because of the ring behind it, but I just don't think that eberle is the best answer to a kris letang trade.

just my 2 cents.

Player A ... supposed stud from the standpoint of Oiler fans that was going to make an immediate impact as a FORWARD

Player B ... second D pairing for the Penguins.

So, stud young first overall pick expected to make immediate impact for Edmonton is being outscored by a second D pairing guy that isn't known for piling up points.

Yep, I guess I'm missing something champ. Move along. Hell, our 18 year old D man from Finland is only four points behind the supposed immediate impact stud.

Edmonton fans like you continue to crack me up with your sheer lunacy.

First off, not exactly true. Second off, there are at least 30 dmen that would be as good or better than our best dmen. Should we acquire all of them?
