And how is that you figure that? A guy that can put up 76 points in a season on the worst team in the league with linemates that put up 52 and 53 points couldn't put up 100 points with the best player in the world and his red hot linemate? Get a clue before yyou open your mouth - Ihatebrianburke
I was just kidding. You took it seriously because you always want to be right? |

Forget about Letang.
Would you trade Eberle right now for an impact defenseman that upgraded your team significantly but might not address ALL your needs on the backend?
Or do you wait and hope you find a team willing to trade you an impact defenseman somewhere down the road that addresses all your needs? - canadianpenfan
We can keep it as Letang if you'd like.
As I said earlier, if Letang was available for Eberle, and it wasn't clear that there was any other roughly comparable dmen available that was a better fit, I think it's a move MacT seriously considers. |

It's a quality post, but it's not like we're delusional or something.
Not to mention that what Oilers fans think has no impact on what MacT does or how the team plays. - Morris

I'd also think the return would have to be Letang+ for Eberle. How about:
Letang + Beau Bennett, 2nd
for
Eberle. - Flyers_V88

Ditto.
But isn't it a more peaceful, more interesting world filled with better conversations if we assume that we're talking with the best a fanbase has to offer until proven otherwise? |

I think we could be better than we are now with Letang, minus Eberle.
But I don't want to lose the forest through the trees and concentrate on merely getting better than we are now. What's a GM doing if he's not trying to build a team to eventually compete for a cup? Not saying Letang couldn't be a piece of that puzzle, but if you don't think it can help you be cup competitive, improving slightly is a poor consolation. - Morris
I would make this trade if I were MacT and worry about finding him a physical 2way guy to be his partner. Coburn comes to mind immediately and would cost an astronomical amount. A Letang-Coburn 1st pairing would give us a chance to compete night in night out. I also don't think it would be that hard to find someone to play on a line with Hall and RNH through free agency in the offseason |

Read around Page 3,4,5, you are going to see it. Letang > Petry + Schultz - SPIDEROCKSTAR
No. Every has said Let any is a better version of them.
Seems all we ever hear is how Edmonton has too many of the same type of player and yet here people are trying to tell us another smaller skilled player is what we need?

Have a good one. I hope if it's a goal-fest tonight that it can at least be a two-sided goalfest.

Most Penguins fans agree (if you're talking about the Penguins). The problem is that the Jets are not in need of defensive prospects. They are looking for winger depth and prospects, something that the Pens can't offer. The only exception would be if the Pens offered Maatta as the centerpiece of the deal, which won't be happening. |

Nice read Gunner. Ek would be proud.
The most pertinent sentence in the blog has to do with Shero not moving Letang before his NTC kicks in. He's not going to pull a Paul Holmgren. Just won't happen. He's not that type of GM. Mario isn't that type of owner. I'm positive Ray and/or Mario had to offer some type of personal guarantee that they won't screw him over like that.

Certainly would improve our Dcore.
For the time being, you could move Gagner to RW until you had a suitable replacement.
Still, a move that depends on us making another big supplemental move? It's ballsy. |

I was talking about the Pens looking at E. Kane. I think if they moved for Letang and then the Jets moved Big Buff for a forward, just mix the dynamic of the team up and not do a "rebuild with young prospects players".
Could give the jets a brand new dynamic without wasting any prime years of their players in a selling of assets move |

Letang might not be exactly what the Oilers need to fix their blueline, but he is by far an upgrade on Shultz and Petry as puck movers. And he is more physical than pretty much their whole blueline other than maybe Ference. He might not immediately fix the problems, but he makes them less impactful. - Ben37

great blog. i understand people value things differently, but at the very least, there is sound logic to this. its both teams dealing from an area of perceived strength to help a perceive weakness.
i wont get into the whole "he is exactly what the oilers need" thing, but at the same time, i feel that a lot of oil fans have a pretty inaccurate evaluation of letang's strengths and weaknesses as a player. and this is coming from one of the people on here who would probably like to see a deal involving him happen the most. |

Can you elaborate? I don't profess to know everything about Letang's game, but I do know a lot about what the Oilers needs are. |

this is what i mean. letang has absolutely glaring flaws in the makeup of his game, but by no means whatsoever is an absence of physicality one of them. somehow, he has gotten the reputation of some like frail puck mover who falls down due to a breeze of someone skating by him. that could not be more misguided. |

My question for oilers fans is, knowing the webers and keiths are not available... why would nt u want Letang? Nurse and leftbom may help out in the furture, shultz and ference are there to stay.. they will have a top 3 pick... seems like a huge step in the right direction |
