you do know that MULTIPLE nhl execs have said that if the 2009 draft could be redone, ROR would be taken 3rd overall after tavares and OEL? - rangerdanger94
So? |

he needs to learn how to play defense. he doesn't take inside position on forwards, or tie up sticks, or retreat to the blueline after going in behind the net in the offensive zone, and a lot of other defensive fundamentals. - rangerdanger94
He has been this year. He's been pretty much as solid as they come. For a frustrated fan base that wants everyone to be traded, no one is interested in moving him anymore because of how much he's improved in his own end. |

give it 5 years and get back to me .... - Redmile247
You mean when RoR is 27, in the prime of his career, winning cups and Selke trophies?
Sure thing Hoss. |

Yep. But to Leaf fans.. Bozak is too. And Clarkson was a steal bro. - DutchCanSaveUs
Now who sounds like the uninformed fan!!!???
Leaf fans for the most part HATED the Bozak signing and many were pissed by the Clarkson one too....
I am not going to argue about RoR as I would love to see him on the Leafs...but your above post just proves you are as guilty as your accusations about Leaf fans. |

So? - RogerRoeper
so your saying they should've traded a guy who, in hindsight, would go 3rd overall for the 6th overall pick? |
|
|
|
So? - RogerRoeper
So what that means it that NHL GM's > you
And everyone here > you
Get it now?

Based on his play? Really? - RogerRoeper
Where it's heading yes. As long as our forwards blow and we are a low scoring team his numbers will always be average, however when we are better I expect him to be right up there |

Maybe itll be easier the other way around.
What about his play tells you he's not going to be at that level?
Edit: NVM, thought we were still talking about ROR. |

And NHL execs say Kessel would have gone first overall. Would that argument change anyone's opinion or mean anything?

We have no idea he would have gone 3rd overall.

We're all here arguing value between hockey players and draft picks. It has no choice but to be speculation and predictions.
What makes a 6th overall more valuable? |

For hindsight and speculation purposes. Say O'Reilly is on Calgary and they end up picking 6th
Av's very well could have taken Ristolainen 6th and Monahan falls to Sabres at 8 |

In fact, i'm quite good at telling futures. Wanna free reading?
Calgary is still going to suck next year.
How's that? Enjoy never winning a stanley cup. |

This whole thing is ridiculous. I think that ROR is a great player, with a work ethic second to none, and a high ceiling that is achievable; however, he is not worth $6.5M a year. That money can be used in a variety of ways to help improve the Colorado Avalanche, and trading him will bring back a lot of pieces that can help the team. He will not land us OEL, but I could see Phoenix possibly parting with Yandle+ for him. Even the Gardiner+ deal is pretty good. I wouldn't be opposed to taking a player like Clarkson or his hefty contract either in that deal because of the fact that he is a true winger that plays a physical game and would fill the void left by trading ROR nicely on that top line. |

at the time that statement was made, yes. duchene was having an off year and ROR was centering their top line. i can't find the exact CBC article, but here's proof of the statement being said during an intermission report:

note that he is being sarcastic about the schroeder comment.

speculation and predictions? ROR IS A TOP 10 OR TOP 5 DEFENSIVE FORWARD IN THE LEAGUE TODAY. that is a FACT and a common consensus among anyone that actually watches ROR play multiple times a year. at the age of 22. it is VERY clear that you don't watch ROR play often, if ever and you are simply arguing now just so you don't have to admit your wrong and look stupid. |

Ok, but what about in the 2013-14' season? You're using an old quote where the individual has likely changed his mind. |

don't see that happening. if COL wanted a defenseman in that draft, they would've taken Jones 1st overall. if they trade ROR for the 6th overall pick, it's to take monahan. |

he'd probably be a top 5 pick if they could do the redraft today. a 22 year old 1st line player that is a top 5-10 defensive forward in the league? for sure.
edit: i think the top 5 draft picks would be JT, OEL, duchene, ROR, evander kane in that order. |

You can disagree with it all you want, but a top line of Landy-Duchene-Clarkson isn't terrible looking, especially considering the price tag on ROR. I would love to keep him on this team, but his decision last year has put the club in an enormous bind, and because of that it is looking more and more like he is going to have to get moved or we will lose him for nothing. Take the best package, where you get multiple pieces that can help the team, and move on from this entire debacle.
