Hindsight is 20/20.
Calgary didnt get Seth Jones. Theres no reason to think Colorado would have.
They got Mackinnon. It was enough. - eddieavs
Agreed ... I think it worked out better for both right now |

In 2009' I had so many people tell me Tyler Myers would win a Norris soon. You just can't predict things like that at all. - RogerRoeper
I'd be willing to bet he's a future candidate...... |

Dipietro/snow are also the reasons for the 8 year max - muffin_man
Yeah, it had nothing to do with Holmgren or Talon. That contract was the beginning of the stupid contract era. |

he's on pace for 55 points which is not what anyone would expect from a 1st line winger that you will be paying 6.5M for. not denying he's a great second liner (still not worth 6.5) but calling him a 1st liner is a joke. - sensnucksnocups

Thats fine...
But now hes played 70 more games since that season, and theres been no drop in his play. Theres been zero signs, unlike Myers, that have shown any lack of progression in his play. His defence has gotten better, and his offense isnt dropping either.
Again, it was too much of a risk to trade him after showing so much progress.
Should the leafs trade Reilly for next years 3rd overall? It would be a ridiculous stance if you truly believed in his progression. |

Ummmm hello you would have your first overall and the 4th ... Mackinnon and jones - Redmile247
Jones is certainly in the Calder race along with MacK... oh wait.

Is thinking Thery should have let him go for such a good package and taking issue with "Future Selke Winner" like it's 100% fact "Misinformed"? - RogerRoeper
I don't happen to agree with you on this one. I think Colorado made the right choice. There is a good chance that you will be proven right in the long run.
The fact is, neither your opinion, or mine are stupid or misinformed.
This guy is an idiot.

ehhh i think his size makes him look a lot better than he really is. if he was normal sized and played the same way, he'd be considered a bust. but since he's big, he's still got "potential". |

Just remember chara took a while to become a Norris calibre defenseman ... Ottawa actually picked wade redden over him ... Sorry sens fans |

No I'm ok. You don't have to take my word as fact. He's miles ahead of where he was last year and has the potential to be one of the best. |

Na, it's actually the opposite. He's a phenomenal skater for 6'8 and is throwing people around like rag dolls finally. He needs to learn how to hit without getting a penalty/suspended. |

The only real disappointment is that he got the mega contract without having proven he was ready to earn it.
Still very young to give up on him, especially for a big defenseman.

So did every other team in the league. We picked him and he was one of the worst skaters I've seen in my life. |

he needs to learn how to play defense. he doesn't take inside position on forwards, or tie up sticks, or retreat to the blueline after going in behind the net in the offensive zone, and a lot of other defensive fundamentals. |
