He needs to go to the mirror in the dressing room and curse himself out in French..
Just thinkin about that happening makes me smile - Dozzer
The thing that I hate, is Reimer has lost that affable, smile at everything attitude... he was lights out when he was that guy... God damn Carlyle... James needs to get some games in... I still feel he's the guy to take us into the playoffs... he's the one with the experience... albeit limited...

He needs to be called out by Carlyle, he looks like the kinda goalie that would pour and cry when that happens though. |

The Leafs are kind of in a jam with Reimer. They've all but declared Bernier the starter, but they can't trade Reimer just yet.
Honestly, if they aren't going to use this tandem properly, they should probably just let Reimer go and try to earn his next contract somewhere else rather than jerk him around. But Bernier is nowhere near ready enough to go dumping the only security blanket we have left in goal.
It's one thing to allow a nightly softie when you still have the inside track on the #1 job. It's another thing entirely to allow bad goals once you are the only option left. The pressure gets turned up big time.
Perception can change within a matter of minutes in manic-depressive Toronto. It's eaten up many a player before. - Leeman4Gilmour

Nothing better than him grinning ear to ear after a brutal loss.

The season isn't over yet, Reimer can still win the net back. My assumption is Nonis will move which goalie loses the job after the season. I'm not saying Nonis wouldn't move Reimer now if someone like NYI called and offered Strome, but it will probably be a summertime deal.
You also have to factor in that Bernier has no playoff experience, and Reimer's experienced pretty much the ugliest the playoffs can offer. |

I've given this some honest thought.
Rebounds
The defense is so damned poopty that they can't afford to have a rebound machine like reimer in net. If the D could learn to clear a puck once in awhile then I think reimer starts more.
Bernier has better rebound control, and with this defense, it's almost a necessity.
I don't think it's a statement about which goalie is better at all |

He's fine as a bottom pairing guy/PP specialist.. But he's gonna want more money than what a guy like that should get
Gleason looks pretty damn good so far... He's the type of guy this D needed, badly. - Dozzer
Yes, Gleason is a very good stay at home D. Both Gleason and Liles just needed a fresh start, Liles is a plus 5 on Carolina and Gleason just had a solid period. As long as he continues to play like that, i could see a Phaneuf - Gleason pairing, Rielly - Ranger, and the 3rd pair could be Fraser - Franson, and they trade Gards, or Franson - Gardiner. That is just short term, i can't see Franson here past this year, and if Gleason continues to play good he might get a extension for a couple years. Some may say that he is old, but he is only one year older than Phaneuf and Phaneuf just got a 7 year extension. Gardiner and Rielly should stay long term, it would be stupid to trade them or let them go, I think. If Ranger plays continues to play better, like I think he is than he might get another contract. I really think that Fraser could be a good shutdown D if he becomes a little faster, but right now he is just way to slow. Last year Fraser was a great shutdown D for the Leafs but after is injure this year, he has just looked way,way to slow. |

Toews as captain wouldn't be hilarious.
I'd consider him over Sid.
Much better player last Olympics.
Couple Cups. Captain serious!

I have no illusions that Crosby won't be captain.
I just think Toews represents Canada a little better. Personal opinion, and I don't get a vote. |

Kunitz making Team Canada is a joke.
He rides Sidney's coattails. Does anyone seriously think that any other potential Olympian would do worse than Kunitz riding shotgun with Crosby?
Look at St. Louis. The guy contends each year for scoring titles. Stamkos or not, he's just consistently great. Throw him on Crosby's wing and how many 100 point seasons would he have?
Vlasic was also a bizarre pick. Sharp was kind of a surprise, but justifiable.
Mike Smith was a flat out mistake. |
