Hey Beav, you ever see that show Brew Dogs? Just saw their Portland episode with the Deschutes brew master. Brewed their Portland inspired beer while floating down the Willamette River on a raft built of empty kegs, and foraging botanicals from the shoreline.

Given your penchant for fine Brews and foraging...seems right up your alley.

No I can't say I've watched that show because I haven't.

Very good point and illustrates the stupidity of the current point system.
- powerenforcer

Consider this EXTREMELY unlikely hypothetical:

Two teams...

One goes just under .500 for the year at 40-42-0, 80 points

One loses every game for the year at 0-0-82, 82 points

The team that won nearly half of its games finishes with less points than the team that won none.

Obviously never going to happen, but the mere fact that it works mathematically is enough for me to conclude that the current point system is ridiculous.

Everyone knows this could happen, but the league will make sure it never happens. That is what the war room is for - to make things seem like it is legit.

I spent the morning going over the Swedish World junior games again, and I can now offer a bit more on Robin Norell.
Just mind the fact that the defenders who play in front of him are basically Swedish junior national vets who get the minutes and situations based on their experience, seniority, etc.
At this point he is isn’t tall but a stocky.
He appears to already have really good upper body strength.
Similar to Nik Hjarlmarsson, he plays the right side as a left hander.
As Hammer at this point he is asked to play a defensive role, and there were only two incidences where he carried on into the attack zone to maintain possession as his team made it’s change.
Comparisons to Hammer are pretty easy because both are really well-balanced powerful skaters, although Norell doesn’t have Hammer’s bent-over hitch.
Norell excelled as a strong shot blocker, and was always on one of the PK pairings on all penalties.
He closed the gap on puck carrying attackers gaining the zone, but what was noticeable was he very physically strong and engaging in his zone, whether it was on the wall, in front or behind the red line.
Please understand my meaning: he wasn’t on bone-rattler checker-but in every opportunity where on opposition attacker was in reach, he applied strong forearm punch (similar to the move an offensive linemen in football makes once the ball is hiked) to players and usually moved them or disrupted their attempted mobility.
Watching the games before doing the “Norell iso” I didn’t realize his feet, because when in the middle zone, he always reverted to a more compact forward skating style, where he knew he was passing off and not gaining the red line. In his own zone he opened up the hips and was very fluid in all directions to allow him to poke check, close and engage and move to body check in his defensive zone.

I refuse to make predictions except that he is smart and solid on the ice defensively at his current level.

Just thought all of you needed something from me to make for my posts yesterday.

I just want all our kids to be with parent club when the situation is most conducive to their success, not every Hawk fan having Danault TT, and the rest penciled in the hawk line-up because it a popular thought.

- wiz1901

First thought that popped into my head watching was Hammer. Not saying he will be that, but I saw a lot of similarities. Watching further really did nothing to dissuade me from that view. Might be a product of the Swede's development system in the way they are taught, I thought he used his body very well for his age and development.

I believe Raanta is on a 2 way so he wouldn't have to clear waivers....as far as Klinkhammer, he hasn't been with the Hawks since 2011.

That is sad. But what can be done about it? Shootouts are here to stay, luckily they have been taking away some of it's impact, though. A whole new scoring system with 3 points for a win, 2 for OT win?

YOU get worked up in the regular season now I don't feel as bad. I'm just glad we have a playoffs to get worked up about. In the dark days I probably didn't care since I knew we would lose most of the games.

Two way means you get paid different salaries based n where you're playing, an AHL salary, and an NHL salary. One way means you get paid the same no matter where you play, which means you are getting at least the NHL minimum. When you get a one way deal, it's kind of a sign that you've "arrived".

I barely watched a full game in those days. It wasn't that they sucked. It was there was no direction and even a hint there was going to be change. Christ, Pulford was still calling the shots.

This is correct. Not sure if Raanta has to clear waivers yet to due to time of service. I am sure someone more ambitious than I will get us the answer.
- Elbows15

I would guess they wouldn't have been so quick to call him up if he had to clear waivers before going back.

I used to love trade talk. But with the way this team is, I can't even think of trades anymore. I don't see trading anyone now. Eventually I see a trade of either Oduya or Leddy. And some of the Rockford guys. That's about it. Nothing I would trade could bring back OEL

I went over there and watched the clip. Scotch Broom is an evil invasive right up there with Himalayan Blackberries and Nutria.

Pulford calling the shots and Dumas as head scout I would watch games just to see the great players from other teams. I used to have a million trade ideas back then. i emailed some to Mike smith. Give him credit for that: he always responded. Was never too arrogant with me
