{Khabibulin’s situation isn’t quite as brief. The veteran goaltender suffered a lower-body injury late in the first period and did not return. When asked if Khabibulin could be out for days or weeks, Quenneville would just say, “it could be a bit.”}

damn, that torn rotator cuff must have really snuck up on him...

As per the Blackhawks on Twitter Khabibulin will be out 4-5 months after shoulder surgery.

How does this effect the Cap and the trade deadline?

I feel bad for St. Louis, more than I am shocked. If you're him, you've gotta be thinking what else can you do to be named to the Olympic Roster? Didn't he win the Ross last year?

I wonder who will get the first call for their respective countries if/when injuries arise. The US injury adds would be the most interesting, given all the poop that came out from those meetings.

I'm most shocked about Giroux. Started slow but came on strong and is an incredible talent.

He should be first in if anyone is injured.

It means that the Hawks can now go over the cap by the amount of The Russian's salary for the rest of the season without worry that they'll have to dump someone if he shows up healthy. According to the Armchair GM on CapGeek they have $1.1M in cap space available. One note of import - I am fairly certain that this does not "accumulate" into a big salary being squeezed in on TDL day. So the Hawks can add a real cheap guy, or can lose a defenseman (or other rostered player) and add a decent 4th liner.

Deemed not ready to play for Finland - probably not ready to play for Chicago.
- StLBravesFan

That is fine, too. Not saying he is or isn't, just that there is an advantage at the entry level when you are A) projected to do well, and B) can cut your teeth with a veteran core.

Pretty much. Still waiting to see if the Sabres game is going to be cancelled or not. Might walk over there if they play.

Maybe that's why he is struggling. Too much off-ice action.

Its a conspiracy I tell ya. Of course, having the rest of the team hig five him really hard might have something to do with it.

I can't see Bowman trading away a rostered player or any defensive depth unless something significant were to come in return. If Bowman does make a trade for a bottom 6 forward, I'd look for either Morin or Pirri and/or picks to be used to get that forward.
