Had an older accounting firm partner who used to go to afternoon Sox games with his dad: until the fifties (maybe a little earlier), afternoon games started at 3; unlike today, games usually took about 90 minutes to play. His father was a trader on one of the exchanges, and his workday ended at 2. On the other hand, attendance was usually about 5,000 on a good day.

That's why the Cubs started having Ladies' Days in the late forties: ladies would get in for a service charge of $.25, I think. Those lasted into the 60s, IIRC.

These guys are all great: you don't get stuff that good any more.

Baseball teams don't want any more than about 40,000 seats - they want to create an urgency for tickets so they get a big advance sale and more season tickets.

The Indians used to play in Municipal Stadium - 80,000 for baseball. No one bought seats in advance: they'd wait for the day of the game, knowing there would always be good walk-up seats.

Almost all of the new baseball parks are 40,000-45,000.

I think the problems all sports will encounter with hockey being affected the least..Is the game will be better viewed on TV and as tix prices keep going up people will stay home...Already happening in a big way in the NFL.

Sure..lackluster defense has caused the Hawks to go toO/T However, in overtime our key guys have given us zero wins. Those performances might just bite us in the but in the playoffs.

Look at the losses like the game vs NYI...Sharp on wrong side of ice.

Yes better players haven't scored true, but worse yet they have surrendered goals.

That's the fear when the best players have to kill penalties and play heavy mins every night even in back to back games. Takes a lot more effort to play good dense than to score goals.

I remember when Monday night games were a celebration....my mom would make a cool dinner and my brother and I could stay up until the game was over......I think the Thursday game has had a huge impact like you said Ogi.....it makes the game watered down...less is more.
