It's funny last night I kept hearing the name Mccarthy on the sharks and I kept thiking of Flames goon Sandy McCarthy. I don't know why but I always liked him. He was probably dirty as hell - tomcat24
McCarthy was TOUGH AS PHUCK.

He was traded by Washington for Nylander, yes. - prd797
Wait so we traded Nylander to get Simon? There were a few other players involved I think. I'm too lazy to look it up |

Yeah that's what I remember. There used to be so many goons around. I wonder what the rankings from 1980 to now would be? That's when I started watching? Probie #1. Domi would be up there. Simon might make top 10 |

Nylander:
November 12, 1999- Traded by the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Bryan Muir and Reid Simpson.
Simon:
November 1, 2002- Traded by the Washington Capitals, along with Andrei Nikolishin, to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Michael Nylander, Chicago's 2003 3rd round draft choice and future considerations. |

They wanted to stay on the lakefront. Soldier Field, named as a tribute to American Servicemen killed in action, is a protected monument, so they couldn't knock it down. Remodeling was the only way to stay on the lake, and going smaller was the only way to improve sight lines and add the sky boxes and other amenities needed to make it a state of the art facility.
I'm all in favor of the preservation of historic buildings, but in my mind, that renovation was so incongruous with the original style of the building, that they may as well have just demolished it, started over, and ended up with a better facility.
There is so little left of the original historic structure, that it's kind of a joke to say it was protected. - Ogilthorpe2
Could have done a dome somewhere else, giving them access to Superbowls, NCAA Final Fours, other events.
What they got is a small, architecturally disastrous monstrosity that is used only a few dates each year. |

Simon would DEFFO be in the top 10 along with
Dave Brown, Jim McKenzie, Joe Kocur, Tony Twist, Rob Ray, Chris Nilan, Lyndon Byers and many, many more.

Can't recall...but he pounded a fading Probie into submission in the playoffs and it gave the Avs a huge lift. - philco28
That sure was an underrated rivalry. Obviously Detroit and the Avs were bigger and nastier but we also had a great rivalry with the avs. Even when we started sucking. I remember the home and home we had with them the day we got Mironov and the next day losing Chelios. So many fights. Mironov fought drury I think and got his butt kicked |

So you have Staal, Giroux, Nash, Tavares and Sharp as 5 of the 12 forwards.
I doubt more than 2 of those guys are named. - RickJ
Staal and Nash should be the only questions. I agree they are bubble players. But the other 3 will make the team.
Keep in mind that Nash may not be scoring as much this season but he was very effective in a shutdown role last Olympics with Toews and M. Richards. Also he has played in 61 international games (56 pts) with 2 Golds and 3 Silver medals over WJC, WC and Olympics. That's pretty extensive.
Staal would be my choice out of those to not make it.
Who do you think will make it over those guys?

All true, but like I said, they wanted to stay on the lakefront. There was talk of a lakefront dome in NW Indiana for a while, but as usual politicians got involved and incentives were given to keepthem within Chicago City limits...that left pretty much only one option. |

Thanks. I forgot about Nikolishin. Those really were pathetic days. Nylander just wasn't physical enough but he had great chemistry with Daze and sully. I will try not to complain about today's teams ever again |

I am just wondering since Teuvo's team the Jokert finish their regular season by the 15 th of March and their playoffs chances of making it past the first round are slim. Could we see TT playing the last few weeks with the IceHogs?

Was Kocur that good? He probably had to fight a lot. I would rather take on him than probert. Also Mcsorley was great. Laraque should be in the top 10 . You are right so many good ones. Brashear |

Yeah I don't see them making the playoffs. Didn't know the league ended that soon. I would like to see him come over this year. |

Certainly plausible and IMO likely. The kid was dynamite in the WJCs and I'd expect the Hawks would probably like to have a few more looks at him on North American ice this year sooner rather than later. He'll likely do the same kind of thing his fellow prospects did when their junior season ended, like Danault and McNeill did last season. |

I'm not saying you are wrong but I've never been a fan of Staal or Tavares and I think Sharp is still on the bubble although he shouldn't be.
For me, Jamie Benn over Staal; Duchene over Giroux and St.Louis may beat out Sharp because of Yzerman.
And I would leave that a-hole PK Subban at home to sulk. |

Too hard to confine it to 10. Too many guys doing the toughest job in hockey and doing it well for a long time...but i'll shoutout Grimson, Boogaard, Berube, O'Reilly, Nystrom, Wensink, Stan Johnathan, John Kordic, Matt Johnson, all TOUGH MA'PHUCKERS. |

Agreed, kind of. They are good teams first and foremost, but they do benefit from the horrific officiating in the NHL. Teams like them know the refs won't call that cross check every shift, so they do it every shift and dare the refs to call it as much as they could...which they know they won't. For them the consistent physical beating delivered outweighs the occasional penalty called. - Ogilthorpe2
This is my issue with officiating the non call for cross checking in the back
Do the same thing to the stomach of the player it's called. Don't know why they allow it to the back if they are concerned with player safety
I'm surprised more guys are not injured |

Steve Sullivan was one of my favorite players to watch. Always rooted and am always rooting for the "Mighty Mite" players like him to do well in this league, buzzing up and down the ice. Gave it all every night for his entire career and always played bigger than he was.
And good luck with not complaining. No question we've been spoiled rotten by this era of Hawks hockey. |

And who did we have to counter them? Fraser was probably one of the toughest pound for pound but out of his weight class. Jerome dupont? ![](https://hbcf.s3.amazonaws.com/images/emoticons/lol.gif) Gary Nylund? Or whatever his name was I get him mixd up with Chris Nilan. Manson was tough but that was a little later.
