It would be nice if it grew so much that girls could have their own league. Such a great game too bad they don't have many options to play later. A women's nhl wouldn't work.

Oakland took out over 10,000 seats out of the Coliseum to bring their capacity down to 53,200, so now that is the smallest.
- Ogilthorpe2

I always thought a market like chicago would have a huge stadium. Guess it is one of the oldest stadiums out there. Didn't they remodel it awhile back to hold more?

I thought the league had a 60,000 minimum - how did they let them do it?
- StLBravesFan

Not sure. Found his article when I Googled Soldier Field seating capacity...

http://articles.chicagotr...field-nfl-oakland-raiders

Seems they're trying to avoid local TV blackouts that resulted when games didn't sell out.

The remodel resulted in a smaller, but more modern facility. It used to hold 75,000.

They really must think men are stupid - that they'll watch anything as long as T&A is involved.

I'd like to think we're better than that.

But I can't.

With all the fossils...i'll be shocked if the Czechs sniff a medal.
- philco28

Certainly comical that they left off guys like Hudler, Vrbata, Hejda for corpses like Kaberle, Novotny, Nedved, etc.

Maybe Chris Simon can gain Czech citizenship, as he's somehow scrapped out a career as an apparent All-Star undead goon over in the KHL.

75,00 is more like it. Hard to believe teams are taking seats out. NFL popularity is going up all the time I thought

For all the Olympic chatter... here's my latest with my team.

I have 4 Hawks on it:

http://hockeyindependent.com/blog/ty_cam/53399/

A couple bloogers on HB have recently posted their team with very questionable options... such as Toews moving to the wing, Brian Campbell and Giordano on the same team and the worst of all Phaneuf in a starter 6 while Doughty stays at home. Some people wow.

Unlike the NHL - TV money is vastly more important than ticket sales.

As Ogi said, sell-outs are important.

He was scary as hell at the beginning. Didn't he get us Nylander? I think he was involved in that trade

Just a testament to the roles that politics and personal connections play in Olympic selection processes. I've got the popcorn ready for the Canadian roster announcement.

Guess so. But with the NFL popularity they couldn't sell 70,000 plus everywhere? And still get great ratings? I thought it is so much more popular than nhl. I guess the fact they play outdoors during some really cold nights hurts. I wouldn't go to a game in december

They wanted to stay on the lakefront. Soldier Field, named as a tribute to American Servicemen killed in action, is a protected monument, so they couldn't knock it down. Remodeling was the only way to stay on the lake, and going smaller was the only way to improve sight lines and add the sky boxes and other amenities needed to make it a state of the art facility.

I'm all in favor of the preservation of historic buildings, but in my mind, that renovation was so incongruous with the original style of the building, that they may as well have just demolished it, started over, and ended up with a better facility.

There is so little left of the original historic structure, that it's kind of a joke to say it was protected.

It's funny last night I kept hearing the name Mccarthy on the sharks and I kept thiking of Flames goon Sandy McCarthy. I don't know why but I always liked him. He was probably dirty as hell

So you have Staal, Giroux, Nash, Tavares and Sharp as 5 of the 12 forwards.

I doubt more than 2 of those guys are named.

Can't recall...but he pounded a fading Probie into submission in the playoffs and it gave the Avs a huge lift.
