Their UFA options are Handzus or Bollig, I'd rather keep Niskanen and lose him for nothing.
They also look pretty set on D considering Nick Leddy is in their bottom pairing. - Ryan_Wilson
but do they have more depth? Minn, LA, STL also could be options. And it wouldn't have to be neccesarily a UFA. Trading a guy playing like a top 4 d-man to a team with depth in the bottom six could bring a third liner. (one who isn't and UFA)
chicago--- bickell, bollig, shaw, pirri, mcneil, krugar, morin. just an example though |

It gives a team a chance to resign him prior to the interview period (or during), but the value doesn't seem great.
Does a non-playoff team take a shot at a guy like that to get him for 20 games and a chance to sell him on their organization? - rival22
with how the market is shaping up, especially with phaneuf signing already, if nisky wants the cash then i wouldnt sign a thing if i was him. he could be looking at a matt carle like deal |

I think it depends on that particular team. How confident their management is in such a move. I'm sure there are certain places that he'd be happy to play. The blue line is filling up and he's going to be paid no matter where he goes. I'd be willing to bet a couple teams would be willing to take a shot on him.
Colorado and Minnesota could be interested. Both have some vacancies coming on the blue line next season. |

Both those teams would be good for him. Minn is the obvious one, but he'd do well with Colorado's up tempo game as well. |

col also has decent forward depth. nisk for mcginn or something similar? I It is debatable about trading him and getting something small back (definately not worth as much as he is) or losing him for nothing |

If that's a healthy McGinn it's worth it. A pick could be worth it as well if we're just letting him walk too. |

That was a fantastic moment. Honestly though...which ending would you have preferred? Winning in regulation or that unbelievable golden goal and celebration? - HopintheCordoba
As a hockey fan, the excitement of that OT was ridiculous. It is why we watch/play the game.
As a Canadian a 14-0 lead after first period would have been preferred. |

Unlike last year, I actually do think that Setoguchi could be an option this year, being that he's a UFA this summer. Not the perfect solution, but would be a decent rental, and I'm not sure how the Penguins can pull off a trade for Wheeler or Kane either salary-wise or prospect wise. They've already got defensemen.
T.J. Galiardi might be more realistic. He's also a UFA after this year. He'd be somewhat like the pre-offensive explosion Dupuis, as he can slot into the top 6 temporarily but would be on the 3rd line assuming Jokinen is with Malkin and Neal and Kunitz and Bennett are with Crosby. |

We are a terrible match regarding a deal with Winnipeg for one of the big three forwards. We really don't have the prospects. I don't want to give up anything for Seto ... maybe a third rounder. He is nothing but a bust since his first or second year in the league.

i just love how people criticize the decisions of a GM who has constantly made teams work with limited reasons, GMs with 4 Stanley cups between the 3 of them, and Brian Burke.
If these guys say that this team is the best fit to win, I'll take their word.
If I were them, I would have taken a guy like Okposo and Yandle.
Just my opinion. |

I dunno... keeping nisk for a cup run trumps anything but a 1st IMO |

You aren't going to make everyone happy. Over the last decade, the US talent level has drastically increased and now you have many options. I'm sure alot of female doging will happen with Canada's roster as well. |

I like McGinn as a player alot. If you can get him for Nisky straight up, I'd do it - especially if every Dman is healthy. |

McGinn is more realistic than guys like Kane, Laad or Eberle. Even Wheeler would be costly. |

Once Tanguay and Parenteau are healthy again I can see them moving McGinn, until then, it will be a 4-6 weeks till they do.
I think we would want to package him with a dman like Benoit, Sarich, to make room for a guy like Niskanen, |

lots of cap room, already carrying 8 dman right now, adding another 1 would have to cause some shuffling. So moving a guy like Benoit on a 1 year 900k deal or Guenin a 1 year 600k deal would be preferred with McGinn.
I dont want them to demote Barrie but if was a straight up deal, thats the move the Avs would make
Im sure we would take a guy like Glass or even your new waiver wire pick Pyatt to help |

We already did that with Hunwick who is actually playing well with the Monsters. Can see him being called up to be traded at the deadline to a contender as a 7th dman.
Roy and Sakic dont seem like those kind of guys who will send down 1 year deals after letting telling them to find year long residence in Denver. Barrie is the only 2 way still so would be the odd man out. |

yup, adding another D would give us 9 up with the big club. Benoit is cheap and isnt useless so he could be good for you guys as a 7th dman. |

pens dont need a 7th, 8th, 9th d-man. hence the idea of moving one out for a forward. |
