But confusing for the defensive coach. Can you imagine? OK Weber, get in there for Weber! - powerhouse
Go get weber and bring him to my office |

In regards to players to be sold, first of all, you look at contracts. Niskanen is a UFA. No matter how you slice and dice it, he's gone at the end of this season. Meaning, he is a tradable commodity as we have a ton of prospects and NHL ready talent to fill his spot. Trade him for forward needs.
Secondly, Martin has a year left on his contract and is fair game to be traded on Draft Day, for a boat load of players, i.e. Jordan Staal. Again, fill in for the spot is not an issue.
What do you think? |

Again, Niskanen being a UFA doesn't help his value unless the Penguins were in selling mode.
The team that would be looking to rent Niskanen would be a team not looking to part with pieces that help now. |

Also, I firmly believe that Shero will extend Martin this summer. |

Last year, it was a lot of "Despres is a future Norris winner, he's already a top-20 defenseman," in here. Now we're discussing what 2nd line wingers he should be traded for?
That kid, if given a fair shot, is going to be really good. Maybe not Shea Weber good, but at the very least, John Carlson good. Just because you have a lot of good young defenseman, it doesn't mean you can deal (to me) the best of the bunch. - jmatchett383
He's better than that now he just needs to actually log minutes. |

He better. The team did say he was the best defenseman despite Letang being a Norris candidate. I don't think any of us had any doubt Martin was better overall. Best PP QB too. |

wow.. was that an article by burnside or an f'n book. One thing I got out of it was that when you consider all the pens staff that have had to juggle the pens and the olymipcs this year, it makes their accomplishments all that much more impressive with the pens |

unless they need a d-man and they have extra forwards... trading nisk isn't entirely out of the question. chicago is bursting with bottom 6 talent but their d would look better with nisk. just an example. |

Only thing I dislike about the Olympics is that it makes me hate our non American players for 2 weeks. |

I'd steer clear of trading nisk to Chicago. Just in case |

nisk would have to be traded to a playoff hopeful at the minimum. it could bite the pens in the ass regardless |

My heart wasn't broken. I was legitimately happy for the guy. It was an epic game and they earned the gold. Period. |

Their UFA options are Handzus or Bollig, I'd rather keep Niskanen and lose him for nothing.
They also look pretty set on D considering Nick Leddy is in their bottom pairing. |

In the past, the Pens could trade Niskanen's rights for a decent pick, but I wonder with the free agent interview window, if trading for rights is pretty much eliminated? |

At some point services rendered becomes more valuable than a return in a trade. I believe we have hit that point with Niskanen. |

I suppose you could trade his rights before that window opens, right?
Edit: That isn't going to do anything for the team acquiring him. Scratch that. |

thats exactly it to me as well. like what may he realistically bring at this point? a fourth? with the way he has been playing, id just rather have him for a stretch run.
im enjoying all of this trade speculation though. at least its entertaining. while winnipeg likely wont happen, its at least feasible |

It gives a team a chance to resign him prior to the interview period (or during), but the value doesn't seem great.
Does a non-playoff team take a shot at a guy like that to get him for 20 games and a chance to sell him on their organization? |

That was a fantastic moment. Honestly though...which ending would you have preferred? Winning in regulation or that unbelievable golden goal and celebration? |
