Keeping Phaneuf was the right choice.
Sucks that you have to overpay but Leafs didn't have a choice and Phaneuf is actually a very good player.

The reason the deal looks bad is because it is being compared to other deals signed at earlier dates with a lower cap.
As time goes on and the cap goes up, the deal will look fine.

Even with the cap going up I don't like it at all. Phaneuf is a good player but not elite...give it a couple years and that deal is gonna be a nightmare |
