What I'm saying is that if the Leafs are going to make a playoff push, they can't just drop a defenceman halfway through the season when he would have been a UFA next year, teams wouldn't give up any assets of value for a guy who might walk next year...at least now, they can play out the season and then trade his poopty 7 year contract to another sucker team for something of actual value in return

If it's a pool trade, depends on what you need...the three for two players makes a difference more in a pool than in real life imo...as real hockey trade I'd take the Kane deal

It's a fair deal. I like Dion as a defenceman, and I'm glad he's on this team. Like I said yesterday, I was not opposed to moving him for a younger defenceman, but he's here to stay now.

I think he's a #2 on a winning team, so let's hope Rielly can develop into that #1. The kid already shows better defensive poise than I though he would. As for Phaneuf's captaincy, I don't think anyone outside the room can really judge him on that. I don't like this common thought that your captain has to be your best player, too.

Anyways, it seems they're building on Kessel, JVR, Rielly, Phaneuf, and Bernier. Let's hope management can build a sufficient supporting cast for that core.

Leafs best case scenario is Rielly becomes that guy. Phaneuf gets a bad rap. I believe most of the team thinks he's a (frank)head but I don't really care, it didn't stop them all from signing there so I think the C thing is overblown.

I would have thought Nonis would have traded him for a package. He is not going to win Toronto a playoff series but he sure will cost them one.

He is just so inconsistent and overrated it is ludicrous to consider him elite. Sure he is top 4... but he is not a Power Play Quarterback or a Stevens, Neidermier, Erikkson or Chara. I am not sure who to compare him to.

Leafs are Lucky to be in the East where dumb decisions don't haunt you as you have too many dumb oppositions.

But good for Neon Celine Dion. Good Canadian Boy, beautiful wife, has the city by the heart strings.
