What could we have done with the money to improve the team? Sign Girardi? I don't see how replacing Girardi with Phaneuf gets us ahead, plus its all assumption he has any interest in signing here...Who is out there to spend this money on?

Keeping Phaneuf was the right choice.

Sucks that you have to overpay but Leafs didn't have a choice and Phaneuf is actually a very good player.
