With all of the Dion contract talk - what happens to Raymond

How much does he get signed for and for how long?

I think it's "OK".

- Scabeh

Yeah...just a result of the market...not great, not terrible...had to be done given their situation and his place with the team. I would have liked to see him closer to 6.5M, but whats another 500k for a captain....though I never liked him as the captain for the Leafs, but thats another debate.

Already went through with my suggestions countless times, I no longer give a poop about this team, they will forever stay in mediocrity.

No way the Leafs will be able to afford to resign him, if he keeps on pace. Possible trade bait if anything.

fans of other teams love this deal for the leafs...

nuff said.

- Dozzer

To be fair it was either this or not signing him.you can't offer a player like Dion 4 years.without him where do we get another man to improve.the oilers had to overpay ference because their d was/is in dissaray

Raymond has been a steal for a mil and makes clarkson look bad. But when the playoffs come, raymond will be afraid of his own shadow me thinks while clarkson will excel in a tight checking game. Great 3rd line guy but i wouldn't give him any more than 2 mil. If he isn't getting points, he does nothing. Still i do like him but doubt he keeps up his pace from early in the year

Because the straight facts are that he is doing a heck of a job defensively. A plus 13 even though he leads the league in quality of competition. Trolls will never admit it but Dion has been great in his own end this year, his game just keep maturing.
- dionschenn

I don't like him, but I do understand the rationale behind signing him. They kinda had no choice. As much as I argued against continuing with the status quo, because look how pathetic our team is... I can't argue against the "who replaces him" arguement. I also can't argue with his game against the toughest competition in the league.

Wanna bet Dion gets into a fight at the Classic with bert, to prove he still has grit and is worth the raise, only to break his hand and get a concussion?

This is the third monster contract the Leafs now have. As a fan that would really discourage me, especially since I don't think any of those 3 players are worth nearly as much as they're being paid.

Imo, he gets moved before the playoffs. No sense in just letting him walk for free, they know right now that they cant or wont want to afford him at $3M+ if he continues on pace.

dion wont fight... clarkson might go him tho

especially if bert touches the water bottle

know what would be awesome? bert on the bench taking a swig from the bottle and clarkson skates by and smacks it out of his mouth... that there would be entertaining

There is no market for a soon to be UFA, and to move him while in a playoff position is just plain wrong. We need to add 1 top end Defensive dman, the east is wide open so i'd say go for it this year.

Dion, Reilly, Gunnar, Franson, and a top guy if you package Gardiner is a young and capable D core.
