so then you agree that there were people who believed JT wasnt the pick, right?? i didnt call you out specifically; in fact its very possible you wanted JT. and vukota i dont keep a running diary of something that happened 4 years ago, my sincere apologies.

not what I said - I remember discussion about what people thought about the top 3, but I do not remember anyone from here saying they wanted someone other than JT. I do remember plenty of media rumours saying that they expected Snow to pass on JT, not the same thing.

I gotta admit im still waiting for that big move that was coming after the x-mas freeze.

I thought we would be seeing all kinds of trades after the freeze? I'm not even taking about the Isles.

Nope gotta side with LGI on this one, I had daily arguments in here with people about Tavares. There were people in here that wanted Hedman or Duchane over JT.

How many people? More than 1 or 2? The way I remember it almost everyone wanted JT. In fact I remember the relief on this board with a lot of people saying they were happy that Snow didn't blow it.

If Snow passed on JT this team would be in Canada by now.

Hmm. You may be correct. I don't remember anyone saying Snow should have taken Duchane, but I can believe it given some of the conversations I've read here. I do remember a few people raising the argument that Snow should take Hedman because defensemen are harder to come by than goal scorers. I don't think there were that many.

I don't remember any. But then again I didn't post nearly as much at that time. I do know I wanted JT a year before we even won the lottery.

Hedman was compared to Pronger in his good days. In all honesty Hedman shouldn't have went top five.

I'd love for the Isles to get Reimer. I would think the Leafs would rather trade him out West if possible. I'd be interested to see what D or goalie Grabner can bring back. I still like Grabner, but I'd move him in the right deal.

He had high expectations. There were hockey people saying that the Islanders couldn't go wrong with any of the top three. I suspect they were mostly Leaf fans.

Remember back then the Isles could score goals. The fans would've killed for anyone that could bury the puck. That plus JT's talent made it a slam dunk pick. That said I'm sure X is right and there were naysayers. I just don't remember that many of them or their voices being strong.

as long as he's out of the lineup there will be rumors that a trade is happening.

if we trade an asset like Grabner for a goalie with the help we need on D I will officially join the off with the Snowman's head bandwagon.

You don't think we need a goalie? You think the combo of Poulin and Nillson will lead us to the playoffs next year?

No I do not think we NEED a goalie.. we NEED help on D, we could be winning games with the goalies we have if we had a dependable D in front of them.

Am I the only one that has seen the difference in the team since the addition of deHaan & the return of Strait? We have no idea if we will ever see Viz in an Islander jersey again.. and we cant wait for him anyway.

Nabby/Poulin will get us through this year. Nillson/Poulin or Free Agent/Poulin next year will be fine as long as the D is of NHL ability.

I agree with improved D, we should be fine with Free Agent/Poulin. I just hope we will be able to sign that goalie. I would hope their is room in a budget for a solid goalie and D signing? A new proven coach would really help as well.

World Juniors is streaming live on NHL.com, USA vs Canada, for those who were unaware. Loads of talent in this game. Both Reinharts, plus numerous others. Good game so far, 0-0 end 1st.

i agree, we dont NEED a goalie but lets assume (pretty safely) this season is shot. next years pool of dmen to choose are...

hamonic (lock)
dehaan (lock)
viz (lock - assuming healthy)
strait (pretty safe; if he is 3rd pairing, the defense is in great shape)

then there is mayfield, hickey, carkner, donovan, reinhart, Pokka, Pulock, Pelech, Pedan, Ness, and a strong free agency group.

assuming all the team would need are 2 more dmen they may be better off trading for a top Goalie and saving money for a top free agent and have pairings of (obviously not THESE pairings)

FA-Hamonic
Dehaan- Viz
Strait - Rookie

its safe to assume one of those rookies will be ready and if vis isnt available there are plenty of options to choose from. id be fine upgrading Goalie now
