I haven't seen much of Laughton, but what I have seen, and what I've read he strikes me as one of those kids who wills themselves to outperform their talent level. - PLindbergh31
Good way to describe it. From what I have seen of him in this tournament he is a guy that will outwork you, instead of dazzle you with talent. He reminds me of Downie in regards to his play (without the lunatic past).
Leier or however you spell his name, has been invisible though. |

NHL is the most important thing for hockey fans in NA, but it isn't so among the world.
As much as Canada/US would love to believe they own the sport. - flyer_nutter
true. although the club teams are the ones who pay these guys. i wouldnt want say crosby or giroux to suffer a season ender while playing austria in an opening game. that being said, i hope NHLers always get to play in them |

Laughton has displayed way more skill than Downie. I think he's going to be a solid second line player with the potential to really do something big. |

Nothing wrong with a hard hat and lunch pale type players. You are probably right, he won't be a guy that dazzles you with skill, but if he can top out at a responsible two way forward that can produce 45-50 points per season, that would be just fine by me. |

I would prefer he gets rest. If he doesn't make it, it might really light a fire under his ass for the stretch run. He's playing great the last 3 weeks or so. I prefer players from the Flyers stay home and get rest, and avoid potential injury. |

I hope your right, but do you remember watching B. Schenn in the juniors and the Tournament? Was a complete stud. Now look at him. Looks like a 3rd line checker. |

Wasn't the pro comparison John Madden in his PK'ing prime? That's what I'm hoping for.
I don't see the points carrying over to the NHL. He has been a man among boys all season this year. |

In the grand scheme of things, I agree. But he is way too talented to be anything less than at least a 2nd liner on that team. Thats all Im pointing out. I dont know why its even a question at this point. He had one slump... the rest of his body of work speaks for itself. |

I wouldn't mind him not making it. He'd get a little rest, and it'd give me one less reason to want to root for Canada. |

The one thing I noticed about Laughton, is he does a lot of the little things right, but I don't see him being more than a 3rd liner.
The foot speed in particular is lacking. - flyer_nutter
Laughton is slow now? |

Your right, I dont want to face Giroux, Crosby and Toews. USA already has their work cut out for them. |

He isnt a speedster, but he surely isnt slow.
The thing that I have noticed watching these games is that Laughton seems like he is years older mentally. He is gonna make a heck of a player. |

Yeah, but his tag line was "When he fills out." He didn't. You don't have to wait for Laughton to fill out. Just get his NHL legs. |

Can Giroux be suspended for throwing a head shot at his own team-mate in the Olympics? |

Maybe he hasn't totally filled out, but he's gained a lot of muscle mass over the last year and a half. |

Canada has so many great players there are going to be guys who deserve to be there and won't strictly due to not enough roster spots. Giroux didn't play well the first month of the season, that may cost him a spot. |

I saw someone post a comment on an article about team Canada saying they'd love to see Giroux, Crosby, and Stamkos on a line. I was just like, "why?" |

This may affect him but Yzerman has already stated he will look at a players total body of work not just someones hot streak or slump. Like if Kunitz makes the team... Seriously? He is nothing more than Crosbys clean up guy. |

Didn't know that. If I were Yzerman and Babcock, I would want to assemble a team with functionality, not just put together an all-star team. Need some hard hat and work boot guys. |

True, but Giroux, Toews, Stamkos, Crosby are locks on any team in the world. the rest you can delegate on who you want to play around them. |
