i used to respect asham a good bit. was what he was, even had some touch for a goonish guy. but then a lot of stuff, most of which was in a penguins sweater if i recall, really turned me off to him.
- stayinthefnnet

Yea. I thought Asham was alright because he had the ability to fill in on the third line if need be. You couldn't keep him there, but he had enough skill to get by for a little while. He wasn't indispensable by any means.

He can be so effective when he's on his game. He's gone through these stretches in the past where he's ineffective and undisciplined. Then, all of the sudden, he finds great chemistry and becomes the fan favorite who scores goals then fights Phaneuf just as the puck crosses the line.
- PhillySportsGuy

i dont know what it is with him right now. he has shown that he has a really good game when he is on it. maybe its just age or what. power forwards typically dont hold up well.

and he wasnt a scumbag idiot either.

i like his work on comcast to boot. totally agree man

- stayinthefnnet

You keep talking about these scumbad idiots after you employeed Cooke for how long? I think you have a misconception of what the Flyers are really about... Hardnosed, never say die hockey. We revere guys like Timonen, Laperiere, Pronger. It's not about goonish, fight filled hockey like you seem to think we all like. Philly is a blue collar city, and we like our players the same way. Someone that works hard, and plays hard.

totally agree with that evaluation. like i said, i just didnt like a lot of the scummy stuff he was up to, especially in that series against you guys. i know that was nuts all around, but id rather that stuff wasnt done

He's never been a good skater so I don't see why age would hurt that much. He's only 31 I think. It's not like he's 40. I think he's just playing too much perimeter hockey. He's not going to the dirty areas to score goals like he used to. He used to get 5-7 goals without using his stick. (Body/skate deflections)

I always hated him so much. What made him so much worse was that we had to give up Upshall to get him. The team tried to make an excuse that we needed more toughness when we all know it was a cap move to keep Giroux from being sent down. Not saying Upshall is some great player, but he was certainly more valuable than Carcillo, Carcillo, Dan Carcillo
- PhillySportsGuy

He was such a disgrace. He embarrassed me....he was so cocky and clueless and useless.

Biggest idiot this team has had, that I can remember. He had no clue.

let me be clear. my opinions are not of what i think the ORGANIZATION does. hell, i think i defend ed snider more than most people on here. the flyers themselves may not be about it. but make no mistake, there are still a ton of fans who in fact have the misconception of true, never say die attitude.

i repeat. this is in no way commentary on the organization, which objectively is one of the most professionally run organizations in all of sports.

Yup, I don't doubt it at all. Especially if, assuming they can make it in the post season, the Flyers end up with the Pens. But hopefully he gets it going much sooner.

I know. In the current NHL, you need your tough guys to have discipline be able to do other things. They need to be able to skate some regular minutes or kill penalties or pop in some goals.

I don't think I ever hated Carcillo; I just think he's a dumbass who couldn't adjust his game. He could have been a decent player.

You're right. I remember when we got Carcillo, the organization was like "The fans are going to love him!"

I didn't love him

He had stretches where he played well, but he could snap and kill the team at any moment.

Look at a guy like Downey. He has become what we all were hoping he could become. He will drop the gloves and pester people, but he rarely takes bad penalties, plays good two way hockey and can contribute offensively.

I could really use it to be able to buy the home I currently live in.

and not to go on a rant about cooke, since hes not really the topic at hand here, but for starters i did not ever once employ him. the dude, even as a middling level player, will make more in a season than i likely will in a lifetime. so no, i never employed him. secondly, if it was in fact up to me in any capacity, i would have canned him after the mcdonaugh incident. that being said, the guy really has changed himself around. and he still is an effective player. it can be done.
