Fantastic. I'm sure that must be one heck of a thrill for him and your family. Tell him to go high glove. Most of the mite goalies couldn't reach the crossbar if they jumped.

they really should play with smaller nets.

do the eagles suffer from backup qb syndrome, like the flyers do with goalies?

I'm completely paranoid that the chubby, neck beard having Kyle Orton is capable of winning this game.

I've been a Philly fan for too long to think anything's gonna come this easy.

Clarke had the better resume, no doubt. He's the greatest player in Flyers history, IMO.

However......

If you're looking at sheer combination of skills, I'm not sure even Clarke can approach what Lindros was when Eric was healthy.

- johndewar

I don't know about that, back to back seasons of 89 assists, QB'd the powerplay and was the best penalty killer on the team, played nearly half the game at his prime and NEVER took a shift off. What Clarke may have lacked in natural talent he made up for with his pure will to win.

If Lindros had played with Clarkes intensity every night, every shift, the Flyers would have won a couple cups no matter who was in goal.

Don't get me wrong, I would rate Lindros as the 2nd best player in Flyers history over such names as Parent, Howe and Barber, but Clarke gets the top spot on my list.

Wasn't
Clarke won 3 Hart trophies and led them to back to back cups

Hard to judge. If you go by what Lindros could have been without the injuries, then not only would he be the best Flyer of all time, he would have been top 3 players of all-time. However because of the injuries he was never able to live to that potential. So by judging on what players in the orginization have done, then it has to be Clarke.

If you put Lindros next to Crosby in a head to head match, I dont think there is a single category that Lindros would lose.

Remember that, with 88, you are going to get a lot of "what ifs" or "what could have beens", with respect to his health. I think Eric's intensity was fine.....he just couldn't stay healthy (or keep his head up).

Believe me, I'm of that age that grew up with a Bobby Clarke mylec stick, bright orange hockey ball, etc. I still own a Bobby Clarke puck that I bought at Spectrum Showcase back in the day, so I'm a Bobby Clarke fan.

But, if Eric could have stayed healthy somehow.....he coulda been the guy.

It's a crime that people are too young to have seen Gretzky and Lemieux. I guess that happens to every generation.

It's the Lemieux-Gretzky debate.

Gretzky stayed healthier, played with a better supporting cast for most of his career and got more room to work from the refs. But sheer talent-wise, Lemieux could shoot better, was a better skater, bigger, stronger...etc.

In the case of the Flyers, Clarke gets it for me. He won 3 MVPs, won back to back Stanley Cups, and was a dominant player despite being a small kid with diabetes.

In terms of talent, Lindros almost certainly had more than Clarke. But Clarke's teams had more success and TBH, Clarke was beloved by his teammates to an extent you rarely see. Even now, 40 years later guys talk about the fire Clarke had.

You won't be landing a top pairing player anytime soon.

Well at least not for another 4 or 5 days, with the roster freeze.

I saw them both quite a bit. And in person. Lindros at his best was the most dominating player I have ever seen.

Is he really a top pair or just is because he's in Columbus?

And Luke Schenn.
I heard for months that he was a top pairing, defensive defenseman. I don't see that opinion posted anymore. I guess that poster went the way the Edsel.

That doesn't mean he truly is a top pair player. If he's the best the team has then that's the spot they'll play him.

I think at the time he was traded people thought he was one of the top offensive d-men in the league.
