Well at least the Flyers won't break tradition with a win; nothing like going 0-400 in those games. I think that every team should have a chance for a Winter Classic game. That doesn't mean that they have to be held in a southern or warm state, however having the same teams over, and over again is really not promoting the NHL as a whole. Oh, well. As long as they still call biased penalties, and hand out uneven punishments, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The other night, I was watching a game, and the player that slashed, and broke an opposing D-man's stick, received an assist on the goal that was scored. The announcers called it a great play by the assisting player. Really? Silly NHL. Yes, hockey is entertainment in the end, but at least make it less like the WWE, and more like a real competition sport.

They should have one on a real pond, somewhere in northern Ontario.

No live crowd.

No TV.

No gentlemen in vertical stripes.

Maybe a couple of reporters so we can find out who won.

Back to basics.

I would want that on tv though.

For the love of all things hockey, can someone tell NBC there are more (and better teams) than the same 6 they keep regurgitating for the winter classic. I predict the following years will be the Pens vs Hawks, then Rangers vs Boston.

West teams will never get the actually winter classic besides Chicago bc of Ratings and Time Difference, no one on the East Coast is going to watch a new years day Avs Wild game, which would have to start somewhere around 9:00 local time to make up the time difference.

Avs best chances of being an in outdoor game are the visiting team in either St. Louis or Montreal in 2015, or Winnipeg in 2016

Winter Classic normally starts at what Noon 1PM EST? I don't think it being 2 or 3pm EST would be that big of an issue, and if its a good match-up from out west id definitely still watch it

not in a million years.

minny and colorado havent hosted a game cuz nobody cares about those teams outside of their own cities.

detroit, philly, chi, nyr all either have large fan bases around the usa/canada or are large tv markets

They should of done that as the first one. They effed it up more when they decided to have Pitt vs Wash. Only reason it's remotely considered a "rivalry" is because of Sid and ovi.

Did it? I won't lie I didn't watch it last year. I remember the original in Buffalo being early and it seemed the next couple were in that 12-2pm range... so if last year's started at 3pm EST would 2 CST or 1MST really be that bad?

Have Stars and Wild in Jerry-world.

DFW luck: Ice storm for the Super Bowl and 90s for an "outdoor" hockey game.

An outdoor game in Tampa? What next, beach volleyball in Yellowknife?
I'm all for Hockey in TBay, but we have something called humidity here that makes ice melt at record (frank)ing pace.... In the the "dead" of winter. Try again kids.

I would think depending on how the LA one goes they might reconsider a Tampa one.

The NHL is milking the poop out of the outdoor games, they have no meaning or spectacle anymore. Its a shame that all it is now is a cash grab

Just please, no more games at Fenway.

Absolutely no view of the play for 90% of people in the crowd.

I paid $150 a pop for me and my then girlfriend to watch the jumbotron in center.

Jesus H Christ. Can't they pick somebody else besides Philly? Why do the Flyers invite this kind of distraction and BS upon themselves?
- Jsaquella

Yeah I agree. No need for the Flyers to bother themselves with this.

Finally some of the Flyer fans are starting to be heard on just how unfriendly these winter classic events are to the tradional hockey fan. Sight lines and distance are horrible. Ice is bad and the stadium is filled with lots of people more intent on partying than watching hockey.

The first one in Edmonton was amazing because it was unique. Each game since has been a little less. I saw the new Pheonix owner on the Ottawa broadcast saying they are trying to get an Outdoor Classic for the desert. Starting to make a joke of the game.

that's all it was in the first Winter Classic, you just thought it meant more, because it was the first.
