Its honestly a question I have. Are people going to forgive him because of the lack of resources or are they going to place blame on him for that time period? - ImThatGuy
Personally, if I have to spend time convincing myself that it's not someone's fault for previous failure, I'd rather just go in a complete different direction. |

My honest answer is I think it's a little bit of both. I'm sure he didn't have all of the resources available to him to properly scout and to do a proper evaluation of these players and additionally, Buffalo was his second job as a scout in the NHL. He was probably a bit raw in that field when he started in Buff but gained valuable experience over the years. He's had a solid track record in Boston. Personally, I would go in another direction. |

"Sabres president Pat LaFontaine is inching closer to naming his replacement for Darcy Regier. Boston assistant GM Jim Benning is the top candidate." - Bruce Garrioch, Ottawa Sun
err.. I dunno. He's had a bad history with us in the past and was supposedly the guy who led the charge to trade Seguin. - Sabresfan-365
I'm not sticking up for Benning, because I'm not really sure how I feel about who I think should get the job, but Benning's last time here was spent under different ownership and far different circumstances.
As far as Seguin goes, the Bruins haven't missed a beat without him.

They definitely haven't missed a beat, however he could have ensured them to be pretty good for a while, there gonna fall a little bit with Chara about to be close to 40, and Bergeron knocking on 30. Who knows though, maybe he wouldn't have woken up if he didn't get traded |

Not much Cabin. I honestly don't know who would be a good choice. I wanted Burke just because of the experience and the fact that he has a ring, but as far the Benning, it seems they know what they are doing in Boston |

Ive tried to ignore the whole thought of a new GM and not get my head all blocked up with it . One thing Iv'e learned , don't worry about someone elses job and just concentrate on your own. You will be employed longer. Only thing we can hope for is its the right guy. We won't know until we win the cup. How many GM's available have won one of them, I have know idea. |

Yea, I almost want someone like Benning who sat behind a good GM and is now ready to do the job himself. |

Whoever gets in here , needs to be given the chance . And we will see how Patty as pres will work with him. Better to have 2 minds making the team a champion. Instead of relying on just one for 16 years . |

I hope LaFontaine can be a good figure head to attract players in FA, help sell the team. Darcy IMO was too controlling and wanted to micro manage everything. I agree I hope it's a collaborative effort |

Agreed. It will be a nice to have a team concept (Patty, new GM and Devine) working together to make the decisions moving forward. |

I know the re-build is on but if Nolan comes back next year, you'll see only a handful of kids up here and it wouldn't surprise me if they dabble into free agency next summer. Nolan prefers to have the kids develop in the minors as opposed to force feeding them into NHL competition. |
