well, I get the frustration that's for sure. That said, this isn't the 'same core' and I don't believe last year was an aberration. I've heard from too many respected hockey minds that this team was on the right track. What I consider this year is a result of not building on last. It's a step back, no doubt, but I do think that just a couple of additions can change our results in an instant. The problem is that the biggest glaring issue IMO doesn't seem to have an end in site, which is this coach.

I understand that Garth moves slow on EVERYTHING, but when you are called one of the brightest up and coming teams in the league and then fall completely flat on your face out of the gate and maintain that failure over the course of nearly half a season, it's stunning to me that management has gone in hiding while allowing an inferior captain to remain at the helm....

And this time to a team that's in need of a mash unit. 8 rookies in the lineup for TB last nite and still Isles cant bring home the bacon.

I read earlier in the posting that Strait and DeHaan looked good together? Who were they playing against????

TB was undermanned, on the road and ripe for picking.

Still we cant get two points at home.

Heads should roll and they should roll TODAY. Not just coaches but players also. There are no excuses for this.

It's becoming impossible to root for this bunch of misfits.

I made that comment and it's irrelevant who they were playing against. The point was they were providing puck support to one another that we havent' seen from our other dmen combos all season. THAT has, IMO, been our biggest problem this year. Last season, the team was fantastic and quick chip passes via player support to get the puck out of trouble spots. This season they're trying risky longer passes that constantly get intercepted. Strait and de Haan starting showing some of that last night.
I think they were by far the two most reliable dmen on the team.

Up by two with 3 minutes to go, you need to close the game out. While I think Capuano is a lousy coach and shouldn't be coaching in the NHL, this one is on the players...

Hes the head coach "coaching" them.

I think the heat should be on him and wouldn't scream murder if he were fired. That said, I'd rather they dump Cappy and find a decent coach who can work with the talent we have.
As I said last night, 75% of the problems we're seeing are mental errors...both goals were mental errors. It wasn't about being overwhelmed by talent. Very few of our losses have been due to being outgunned. It continues to be more about collapses that happen out of nowhere. I have to think that a decent coach could create a bit more composure and fewer of these breakdowns.

I agree. I think coaching is the biggest problem right now. I can't image these same dopey mistakes happening with a successful NHL coach. Cappy had them playing a wide open system that has only had success with the most talented teams (which the Islanders aren't). He never adjusted to the injuries. The team consistently came out flat and not ready to play. The team hasn't played a 60 minute game all year. The prospect development has been questionable at best. Players are missing their defensive assignments. All this has been going on for months. The players share the blame but it's the coach's job to hold them accountable. Even if you think Cappy is a good coach (which his record shows he's not), then he's lost this team and they need a change. No good NHL coach would accept this nonsense. A good coach would have at least 5 more wins with this team.

Snow and Wang are also to blame. None of us were happy with the lack of FA acquisitions to address the team’s deficiencies. However, I still think the biggest issue right now is the coaching staff.

BTW I’m glad Snow didn’t panic and pull a Milbury and trade away all the prospects for some stop gap that probably wouldn’t have helped.

hickey played a fantastic game yesterday and showed why you DONT need to be huge and physical in order to be an effective defenseman...

neilsen blew it and ness once again blew nuts.

- LetsGoIsles

Hickey is one of the better d men on the worst blue line ive ever seen in my life. He is consistently inconsistent and gets muscled off the puck not as much as a Mac but enough for it to be noticeable. With that said he played a decent game last night but if he was our number 6 d man I'd be much happier.

Yup. He is finished. Looks good on him. He helps with the kids around here, but after that, he has ruined his reputation. Richard Head.

I was at the game tonight. Did you guys hear on TV the "we want moulson back" chant after Vanek missed in the shoutout?
- NYI44

i must have missed what vanek has done thats been so terrible... isnt the jt/vanek/ko line one of the best in the league right now?

id still drop ko to the 2nd line and put clutterbuck on top line...wanted ever since they got CC

I think whoever was chanting that is a misguided idiot. He's had some bad moments lately but be careful what you wish for. Their agnst should be directed elsewhere. As far as the bold goes I think it's hysterical that Capuano FINALLY put nielsen, Grabs, and Bailey on a line and they were great last night. How long have I (and some others)been saying this now for secondary scoring? Okposo instead of Bailey would be even better. Best line we had for most of last year. Capuano=Moron.

clutterbuck doesn't use his linemates and consistently takes weak shots from range and bad angles. He doesn't look to make a pass, and doesn't look to anyone else. I think having him in the top six is a bad idea.

Agreed. I think some will refuse to realize that JT and Okposo have A LOT more space because of the attention Vanek gets. That said, stupid chants like 'We Want Moulson' will pretty much assure that whatever remote chance we had of signing Vanek will be gone.

it's the "shoot from anywhere" mentality that kills his line. He throws weak shots on goal up high so the puck gets frozen, no rebounds and no creatvity. He may as well be playing by himself
