Marchand is one of the dirtiest players in the league. - Orpik44
So Boston is one of the dirtiest teams. |

Absolutely. I'm waiting for the post game comments. I wanna hear Julien.
After Thornton gets back from his ban he should expect to see Big Mac in the lineup next time.. - Orpik44
I hope not... if thorntons thuggery leads to the pens pulling talent out of their lineup then its only another win for Boston and that kind of garbage play. I kinda feel bad for Boston fans... they are forced to watch a fairly talented team play the kind of boring hockey they do. As a hockey fan it makes me say to myself "but for the grace of god go I" |

Neal looked down at Marchand and moved his knee in the way of his head, he will get 2-4 games
Thornton should be gone rest of the year... |

The act of jumping a guy from behind and punching him senselessly while on the ground speaks for itself. You don't need a stretcher on the ice to punish that severely.
If you want consistency in rulings you can't take injury into the equation. - Ryan_Wilson
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. If Thornton's punch didn't hurt Orpik, we wouldn't be talking about this right now. We see this type of play relatively often during dirty/chippy games. I think the result of the play has to be taken into consideration. I think there should be a minimum standard suspension for dirty hits (minimum 5 - 10 for elbow to the head) and then have games added on depending on the severity of the injury. |

So why do you need to run here and tell us. The Flyers have been loaded with dirty bumholes their entire existence. What's your point. Yes, Neal has a handful of dirty plays in his career. Now go away. - madmike71
Fans of other teams should be welcomed in to debate when they do so reasonably. You see the isles blog after the last game? pens fans throughout defending the win. and really, who better than a flyers fan to comment on dirty play... its like hearing a physics lesson from steven hawking. |

No argument here. He's a real POS. |

Did the linesman knee orpik in the head when he jumped in or something? Not to make light of this situation or take away the severity of Thornton's actions but those seemed like harmless punches. |

Dirty play, but did it to the right player. Marchand does plenty of those types of things to other players. Yeah, I dislike Boston, but I would hate Marchand just as much even if the Canucks had won the cup. |

I watch the game on NHL centre ice and I get the game from the home teams end most of the time. Before I go on my rant I would just like to say that the Boston Bruins are a fantastic, big, skilled and well coached team and good for them on their win tonight. My problem lies with the broadcast team of the Bruins. jack edwards (whose name does not deserve to be capitalized) and the rest of his associates are quite possibly the worst in sports history. I have listened to countless games from them and time after time I have let their banter go.
But I have had it this time. To concentrate your attention on a on the priorities that pertain to your interest instead of what the real situation is cannot be justified. I think they are disgusting and so lopsided in their perception of reality that they should be banned from any type of social media. How are they still all employed? They make me sick and I actually believe that they think the thornton assault is justified. |

You could tell he was knocked out by the way he was laying on the ice. Let me sneak up behind you, pull your feet from under you, you fall backwards to the ground without being able to brace yourself, then let me throw a couple punches into your face with some ski gloves on. I bet you won't be happy about it at all when you wake up. |

I'd have to agree with that. He does a lot of Dirty Stuff during games. Always. |

I agree with you, always like watching Boston play but if it's that idiot behind the mic I watch a different game, the guy is ridiculous |

Let's find out, how about you put your head defenseless laying down and have Engo take a few shots at you. Then you are free to comment on the severity. Cool? |

To add to this. If you really want the best way to eliminate these type of plays or players, you punish the team as well as the player. The team should be fined the same amount (or more) as the player, and you shouldn't be able to replace that player on your roster. If a team has to play a guy short for 10+ games, and you start taking more money out of the owner's pocket, they are going to eliminate the cheap stuff/players really quick. |

I think the issue is more that of the back of his head hitting the ice. Much like most football concussions they don't come from the hit, punch in this case, but the whiplash affect it causes and the back of the head hitting the ground. |

I get the feeling that they have no care for the welfare of Orpik. Orpik made a clean hit on a player receiving what is known as a suicide pass from his own defenceman. Neal should not have done what he did, but I must say he played it off well. But at no place in time can you closed-fist-with-glove PUNCH and defenceless human being TWICE in the head while he is down and be considered tooth-for-a-tooth. |

That makes sense. From the only angle I saw I thought it looked like the linesman might have nailed him, didn't really get a clear view of Orpik. Why is no one replaying it |

Steigy is bad, but edwards is a different level. Not that it matters really. I could care less what either dope says. I do know Steigy wouldn't try to justify that assault. |
