They don't have to play Subban on the PK or to protect the lead at the end of the game, but he's their best option to give them the said lead.

In addition, the NHL says the agreement guarantees that there will be no further regionalization of games or local blackouts.

While the metropolitan is very underwhelming as of now, I still think that it is very possible four teams make it. Pittsburgh is a lock. Each of the other teams have their own problems from thin d - lines (WSH, NYI), to Goaltending (PHI, NYI), to scoring (NYR, NJD). The teams have star players and high expectations so each of them are defined by the failures right now. But they can still play with any team and will only get better throughout the season. Teams like PHI and NYR have young legs and depth, they are built for the long season and have a history of heating up towards the end. WSH and NYI have Tavares and Ovechkin who are insanely talented and give their team's a chance to win on any given night. It's simply way to early in a long season to ignore the metro.

I really need to edit that. If you didn't see my comment after, I meant to say cup contender.

Most Sens fans thought they were a playoff team.

- Charliebox

There was quite a bit of "overrating" by the fan base which is fine in itself but it usually came with talking smack about other teams. I know due to being involved with it. A lot of them saying that all the editorials had to be right and how I know nothing especially since every hockey writer agreed with them. I laughed and said we'll see? Well here we are.

I don't really understand this part of it all.

I would say that a good half (probably even more) of NHL center ice subscribers do so because they live in one Canadian city and cheer for a team from a different Canadian city.

Sure there are subscribers who like some American teams, but I can't think that would be the majority.

Yeah that was the only reason I used to subscribe. I don't anymore though.

Every fan base has a good chunk of people who are idiots.

Also, in the Sens fan base specifically, I would say a good 25-30% of them hate the Leafs and Habs more than they even love the Sens.

It's honestly stupid. Some people in Ottawa get more excited when the Leafs lose than they do when the Sens win.

I would bet money that, over the last 20 years, our rivalry with MTL is greater than the TOR-MTL one.
- Alpamayo91

Oh, and you'd win that bet. But my point isn't that Toronto is Montreal's greatest rival, but rather that they're not as irrelevant as that other guy made them out to be.

On the flip side, however, Rogers obtained the editorial rights to Center Ice, which means they're getting a lot of the revenue from it. It kind of evens out for them.

Without numbers I can only guess that the deal with Rogers covers what folks would be paying for Center Ice, and Rogers probably asked for the blackouts to be stopped as part of the deal.

Casual hockey fans do exist in Canada, and it would make more sense to make all the games available as opposed to forcing them to pay for a product that they wouldn't anyway.

Really? Because literally every advanced stat says otherwise. Which is weird, because you're clearly very smart and in no way regurgitating sound bytes from people who watch about as many Habs games as you do.

Cutting TSN out of the NHL broadcast lineup is a huge mistake.

If I was debating with you, I wouldn't be ripping into your team, that's for sure.

I thought the Isles were going be good this year.

The thing with rivals though (ie sens fans talking smack about Tor or MTL or vice versa), is that everyone is going to overrate their own team and underrate their rivals.

I honestly thought the Leafs would struggle to get into the playoffs this year. Sure, I am biased, but I just didn't see it with their D and lack of centers. They've proven me wrong so far, but I think it has more to do with goaltending than anything.

Why does agreeing that the Sens are overrated make me a hater?

Hate implies caring, and literally no one outside of Ottawa cares about the Senators. You're an irrelevant team, both culturally and statistically.

- oniremosewa

Personally, I find it hilarious and mildly disturbing the way that Habs fans present themselves as the spoiled rich kids of the NHL, sticking their nose up on the rest of the teams because they dominated the league before most of their fans were even born.

Say what you want. After the Habs cup win in 1993 (21 seasons ago) Ottawa's been a better team statistically. And that includes 4 years as an expansion team starting from the absolute bottom of the barrel, in a market sandwiched between the most popular franchises in the league.

Get over yourself.
