I also really like the 3 on 3 idea. 5 minutes of 4 on 4 then 5 of 3 on 3 then MAYBE a shootout? wondering if that would take too long.
One thing I never understood is why the shootout is only 3 skaters. It's not enough in my opinion. The first skater makes it and the first skater on the other team misses and the shootout is just about over. I think the AHL does 5 skaters in the shootout which I prefer
Either way, I think the shootout is stupid and shouldn't exist in a team game - gypsypunk92
just play hockey and if the game is tied it'd tied leave the "every game has to have a winner" to the playoffs |

Why not make it fair and go back at the end of the season? |

I like the idea of 3 on 3. What is the discussion, 3 on 3 for an additional 5 then SO or 3 on 3 until there is a score.
I like the idea of 3 on 3 until there is a score. It cant take too long, and if you get rid of the SO then you can get rid of the Over Time Point. Win is a win, Loss is a Loss. - youarewrong
NHL is the only pro league that has to resort to gimmicks like the SO or taking players off the ice in OT to please casual fans -- it's an utter joke.
It's a 5v5 game... it should be decided 5v5. |

If they do make the change, I would want it to get rid of the Shoot Out. 4 on4 for 5 minutes, 3 on 3 for 5 minutes. If that isnt enough, just end in a tie at that point. The whole point for going to a shoot out was to keep teams from "playing for the tie". But when your playing 3 on 3, you can't really "play for a tie" To be honest I never had a problem with games ending in a tie, much better then crappy teams staying in the mix because of SO wins and ovetime points... If you lose in OT then you lose the Points. |

Bill,
Downie is a UFA at the end of the year, and I'm not sure the Flyers keep him. Do you think that 3rd line gritty winger is a role that Cousins will get a shot at? - jmatchett383
Eventually, yes. Still a long way to go this season, though. |

I hate the Shoot Out, but it did come along because teams tied with 5 minutes left would basically just play catch to get the tie. It was boring. I'm ok with a tie, but make it so the players have to play for a win. |

award 3 pts for regulation win, 2 for ot win, 1 each for tie at the end of 2 ot (5 min 4 on 4, 5 min 3 on 3). |

I think you guys are over blowing JJs homerism. He's a hometown announcer. Of course he's gonna be a homer.
We do it all the time- complain about a call or non call or say "UMMM OFFSIDES THANK YOU!" or get pumped when we score or Mason makes a huge save. JJ is a flyers fan too and he tries to make these comments sound as non biased as possible because he's a commentator.
I like the way he calls the game. I like the way he has fun with it. And to the "Simmonds punch in the face" thing, things happen quickly in real time. Maybe he actually thought it was a punch in the face.
People used to love what Harry said "Here's the pitch...... RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE for a ball" but JJ gets poop on when he says "And here's a turnover by the flyers as the Caps carry it in...they say it's onsides...."
I like his emotion and enthusiasm and I like his calls. I could do without Coatsey though |

I think both ties and the shoot out are a joke, but ties, to me, are a far bigger joke.

I agree.
Coatsey is everyone's favorite uncle who makes inappropriate remarks about his wife's sister and probably only brings cheap beer to family parties. He's harmless.

Couldn't agree more. There are no ties in this league any more just wins and losses. - mayorofangrytown
Theoretically, a team could lose every game and still be "better" than a team with 30 wins. |

I do like Dave Strader.
I just think JJ isn't as bad/homerish as he gets made out to be on here. Compared to some of the REAL homers out there he really isn't that bad.
Tl;dr it could be a lot worse |
