do you think he has a word doc open and is crafting his replies so he can just copy and paste them on that day?

I don't really mind it because he doesn't hide the fact that he likes to be the center of attention. He's also a pretty friendly guy.

I agree. He really can't help himself.

I agree about his whistle to whistle play calling. I just cringe when the homer in him comes out. Just call the penalty then watch the replay before getting all upset. I also hate his "down goes (insert other team's player)" fight call.
- PhillySportsGuy

My big beef with him is the "they saaaaay it was offsides!"

I think you're being a bit irrational. You can't expect the broadcasters to be all doom and gloom if the team is losing. A game can be entertaining even if the Flyers are losing.

that isn't what i said i wanted but thanks for the straw, man

Incredibly friendly. When I used to work at the Apple Store in Ardmore, he came in a few times. I told him how much I enjoyed his time here and what a tremendous player he was and he was incredibly humble and thankful.

Can't say the same for John LeClair. Very unfriendly and no matter how subtle we were, he wasn't interested.

Ed Hospodar by the way is easily the friendliest former player I've ever met. Bone-crushing handshake too.

I just hate athletes who draw so much attention to themselves then complain about people or media bothering them. McNabb falls into this category. Anyone who calls themselves humble isn't humble.

I get it. You don't like the guys joking around in a close game. They should be all business.

Glad to hear Voracek is fine. Hard to see who's on the bench from my television.

I might be alone in this, but I'm still not confident this turn-around is enough, or will last. The team still feels very fragile, and while they are winning, they haven't really dominated much.
- youarewrong

I was thinking about this last night. While I don't think they are perfect, they are in a much better place than they were a few weeks back. I think some of why I feel they are fragile is actually my psyche towards the team feeling fragile. When we went down a goal last night.....my first reaction was to think "well look we've been rolling well lately, we have to have a clunker now and then" It was almost as if I couldn't help thinking that though because they condition me to it so much of last year and early this year. But they didn't fold, the battled and came back.

In other words, I think they are more fragile than they seem to actually be. This is probably a defense mechanism of mine so I'm not so emotionally taxed when they do lose.

Just a thought.

the other one he uses way too often is "...and NOOO call..." its really irritating.

coatsie is just brutral. i actually can not listen to him anymore.
why does he haveto be in the studio for the post game? tocchet and clement dont know enough about hockey??? they need his help? iswear they just put him there to put a positive spin on everything. also, you can tell he gets under tocchet's skin.

The thing with LeClair was that he always came off as very grumpy. I guess the Apple Store isn't where he wanted to be. You'd think though that people telling you that you changed their lives and entertained the hell out of you would lift your spirits a bit.

The humility thing is interesting. All of the "big" celebrities I met while I worked there were all gracious and friendly. Almost all of the local Philly "celebrities" were whiny, demanding, self-important Richards. Except Marc Howard.

I don't mind JJ and Jonesy joking around ... but the Coatsy commentary just drives me nuts. He's such a clown show.

I thought he did a good job on radio a few years back, though.

Coatsey is just incredibly loud, highly delusional, not very bright, and I'm pretty sure he's plastered most of the time.

Agreed on the so-called punch. It was more of a push to Simmonds. People tend to overreact with Ott. Still hate the guy, though.

I also agree about preferring to watch the game on another channel when it's available. I like the different perspective on the Flyers ... and it's fun to hear other broadcasters praise or criticize our players.

JJ does a good job, I think ... and Jonesy's not bad. But Steve Coats just adds an amateurish or buffoonish quality to the whole broadcast, and that's something I can live without.

- FlyerGuy

I liked it better when they just went with this. Don't try and pass Coatsy off to me as an analyst. Go back to Coatsy's corner where he talked Flyer's history or had funny skits with Esche or Boucher....I like that. Embrace the idea that Coatsy is a buffoon and I can fun with it.

I am, frankly, stunned that JR would try to make himself the center of attention.

/not really

- johndewar

i was in chicago last week and at union station there is a deli/bar that has an understated sports theme and pics of chicago athletes. it was early and i was pretty tired when i walked up to get some take out and saw this big pic of yong JR wheeling at center ice in the hawks home (white) 27; i admit i had a smile on my face looking at that. there is just something about him that i like and he even said last night he felt like he should have played in philly longer. of course i had to vomit several other times while in and around that area with the hawks cup champions stuff plastered all over the place......why can't that be us?? [sobs uncontrollably].

btw, does anybody else miss the white home jerseys?

Jonesy has a very good sense of humor and he knows a lot about the game. I don't see why people wouldn't like him. He's also much more unbiased than Coatesy and JJ and is willing to give credit to the other team. You know, the team playing AGAINST the Flyers!

Everything had settled down for the most part. Players were at their respective benches.

Rinaldo skated over tho the Sabres bench to challenge Ott. IMO that is why they gave him the 10min misconduct. Rinaldo is lucky he didnt put his team down a man. Just seemed like a silly/odd move to make.

Now if Ott said something to provoke that (Probably did) is a different story.

- ImThatGuy

not totally accurate. Ott and Simmonds got in each other's faces and Ott shoved Simmonds up high. that is when Rinaldo came over

best JR moment ever ,he took a slap shot to the face (desjardin?) gets up holding his jaw together with one hand and waves to the crowd with the other as he is lead to the locker room. ill never forget that.

Normally a 40-minute effort in an NHL game costs us 2 points. Normally we stink in the 3rd, not the 1st. Thankfully we woke up against Buffalo.

Glad to hear Jake is fine, I just managed to pull off a Skinner for Voracek trade in my keeper league.

If we could magically make Hartnell disappear and replace him on the top line with a 25-year old scoring winger...

I watched the Subway Series last night, Laughton looks great! Can't wait for Laughton to be our 4C next season. Put Rinaldo and McGinn on his wings, so long as Berube keeps a short leash on Zac.

still ... it's freaking Simmonds. He can handle himself.

I hate it when Rinaldo feels the need to come to the defense of Rosehill and Simmonds, as if they're Giroux or Jake or one of the smaller guys.
