I'd rather Holland turn into a legit 2nd or 3rd line C than worry about a 2nd round pick...

He wasn't drafted in the first round for no reason

It's a high risk but potential high reward.

Really can't understand why, with us so weak down the middle, that Reilly wasn't in last night.

One thing we have is strength in offence on the blueline and that needed to be utilized last night.

Leafs don't need any more 3rd or 4th line players right now so the 2nds would be fine with me, but the 1st now are untouchable unless it is a top 3 player (center)
- SgtSerge

With good drafting and player development you can find good players in the 2nd round. For Bernier I have no problem...we were trading for a potential starting goalie. But if we're just getting a 3C or a fill in for Bozak I'd rather not give any more away.

Rielly sitting is ridiculous... the Sabres are a team he'd excel against...

Meh Kuli's not paid enough to be a big-time scorer.

He does his job quietly. Probably won't be back next year as his salary will go to retaining Raymond(I'm assuming)

- AngryWhiteMale

Believe me...I don't even expect 20 goals from Kulemin. But I at least want to notice him out there. I did last year and he only got 7 goals. This year...not so much.

Carlyle must have expected a donnybrook...otherwise we need all the offensive help we can get.

Foot probably still bothering him. He was pretty darn good those first two games before he went down.

How do you know this about someone you didn't know existed until an hour ago?
- scotch_tape

Watched him on the Storm. Good solid player. Surprised the Ducks traded him. Except for the salary dump added in I doubt the Ducks would have done it.
Holland has the talent level to push his way into a fight with Bozak and Kadri for a spot as 1 of the 2 top centers on the team. We Have needed this kind of completion for a while as it looks like Bozak and Kadri have not been moving forward in their development.

Our D should be more offensive than defensive, yet it's surprising...or alarming...how little offense they have contributed so far. As much as some of our forwards need to get scoring, so too does our D.

They're all paranoid about blowing it defensively. They fear sitting and cant let loose.

My guess.

Gardiner's afraid of the wrath of the coach. so he wont take chances.

Franson has 10 or so points, which for what he's making is decent.

Dion has only 7 points this season. That needs to be better. The guy simply isn't the offensive powerhouse he used to be.

Agreed sadly.

Phaneuf has taken that step into two-way defender and he's been pretty darn good at both ends this year.

Yet Franson, Rielly, Gardiner are all offense first though outside of maybe Franson none have been extremely dangerous, Ranger was technically offense first in his previous NHL time. Gunnerson is anti-offense this year

Regarding Dion...I think it's because he's been asked to carry the load defensively. That was the rap on him in Calgary...he just refused to play any defense.

Yeah but he gets big minutes on what has been a very successful PP so far this year, and yet his point totals are underwhelming.

And as far as carrying the load defensively...I don't think Gunnarsson gets enough respect, I think he's been very solid this year.

A good trade for Toronto. Blacker was so low on the Leaf's defensive depth chart, I doubt he ever would have gotten a chance in TO. I mean Reilly is already here, Percy is ahead of him, so is MacWilliam, so is Finn, probably Granberg too. Besides with Bolland out, Holland becomes very important. Good trade Nonis. Also got some depth in the other guy they got for the Marlies. Holland is young too, only 22, a former 1st round pick.

Agreed.

Blacker was being benched often on the Marlies. Holland even if he doesn't do anything for the Leafs is already the best centre on the Marlies.

I mean (frank), when you see the Leafs centre depth throughout the organization it is literally dry outside of guys 3-4 years away if ever in junior and respective other leagues.

McKegg and Carrick are the only two "prospect" centres in the entire Marlies system, and one is a hopeful 3rd liner at best, the other a likely AHL grinder that gets a few games here and there in his prime.
