December is both busy and hard.

Maybe keeping your head up would help; hit on Backstrom prob gets Kadri something but not the other one.

not at all. That shouldn't even have been a penalty. This isn't women's hockey.

@markhmasters: Carlyle on Kadri hit on Granlund: "It’s beyond me the 5-minute major ... He made initial contact w the shoulder & the kid had his head down"

@jonasTSN1050: Rulebook states that match penalty shall be imposed on any player who "deliberately attempts to injure" or "deliberately injures".

so no, and no.

gotta love Rookie refs.

I'm trying to figure out what him having his head down has to do with anything. Was he going to do some super Mike Tyson head dodges to avoid it? He was going to get hit up high whether his head was up or down.
Why or How does Kadri miss a check on a stationary player with his head down?

For the record, Leafs coach Randy Carlyle didn't think Kadri's hit on Granlund was all that bad, saying Granlund's head was down and the contact was in the body. However he didn't change the position of head just prior to or simultaneously with the hit, something the league looks at. It's close and the league will disect it like all plays.

no, he wasn't. if his head was up, it would have been about 6 inches higher, and Kadri would have hit him right in the chest.

And having your head down is YOUR responsibility, not the guy's hitting you.

he wasn't on his knees, or in a compromised position. He was standing there looking at his feet - something every peewee hockey player is taught not to do. Hence the saying "keep your head up" - so you don't get hit like that.

Whoa, I really hope you are kidding. It's the checker's responsibility to not target the head of a player, which he clearly did, whether it was intentional or not.
Also, the part you clearly ignored, was the tidbit about how his head never changed position, it wasn't like he bent down (an action which would lower someone's head 6 inches...as opposed to looking down) at the last second.

So because a player has his head down, you are allowed to hit him in the head? That is what you just said.

I'm aware of the positives of keeping your vision higher up when carrying the puck. I fail to see what that has to do in this incident. He has his head down, so Kadri is allowed to level him in the head? A stationary player? Why or How is he missing such an easy check anyway?
Because he aimed high.

I don't know what sort of anatomy you have been studying, but when I look down, my chin doesn't go down 6 inches. Also, the part you clearly ignored, was the tidbit about how his head never changed position, it wasn't like he bent down (an action which would lower someone's head 6 inches...as opposed to looking down) at the last second.

How can you unintentionally target something?

No, I'm not kidding.

If you bend at the neck at close to a 90 degree angle, as Granlund did, hunched over looking at his feet, then yes, that's about a 6 inch drop for the forehead.

Never said he changed position late. Don't stand there with your head down. Period. Rule #1 in contact hockey, keep your head up. Simple stuff. This is why.

Kadri got a major cause the refs realized they (frank)ed up and probably should have given him a major for running Backstrom. But the call on the Granlund hit was a joke.

You are saying that because a player has his head down, you are allowed to hit him in the head.

2nd time you said this. WTF are you talking about? he didn't miss anything. Granlund's head was the closest thing to Kadri, cause he put it there. And he was bent over at the waist.

I think you need to watch the hit again.

you should realize that only non-Leaf players can get away with this. Every other organization is classless when a player delivers a headshot.

I'm watching it. He is bent over, I acknowledged that. But again, you are saying because he is bent over, Kadri is allowed to hit in the head. I just don't see the logic in that. Yeah, keep your head up, hockey cliche, we all know it. But that means blast the guy cleanly, don't hit him high. If he's bent over, there are many ways to hit him without hitting him in the head. You acknowledge he was already in that vulnerable position and did not make any sudden movements...so again, how does that make Kadri not responsible here?

I don't think the NHL is going to buy the argument that he hit his head because granlund put it there.

Chara hits guys in the head 4 or 5 times per game. Kadri didn't ONLY hit him in the head, he hit him in the chest and shoulder as well, and also the head.
