It was a ghost town. I was just you, Bill, 12 trolls and myself and the trolls felt bad for us.

The Flyers have Downie, Hartnell and Simmonds in their top 9 forwards right now.

Too much toughness and penalties, not nearly enough skating and goal scoring.

- Feanor

That's what it comes down to. That and the lack of speed on the back end

To be fair, we haven't really gotten a look at this team with Downie for more than a minute. #nitpick

Bill, how do they look when practicing? Are they sharp? Serious? Relaxed? Is it morose? Just trying to get a sense. Thanks,

* The Flyers have scored just two goals in their last four games, and are averaging 1.47 goals per game on the season. By way of comparison, even the 1930-31 Philadelphia Quakers -- perhaps the worst team in NHL history -- managed 1.73 goals per game.

---------------------------------------

I was pretty sure the Flyers were still setting offensive records this season. Thanks for confirming it.

We boo the press, but they haven't skipped the post game interviews yet.
- BulliesPhan87

I've been watching hockey for a few years now, and I've yet to hear a single insightful word uttered by a player at a post-game interview.

Why even bother trotting the players out there?

But I don't mean to be all negative. So I've put together some quotes that all scribes can use.

For post-games the team has won
"Yeah, well what can I say, we just tried to keep it simple out there and play our game."

"Team plays with a lot of confidence, knowing that (stupid nickname for goalie, usually taking first syllable of last name and adding "zie" or "zer") is between the pipes. He gives us a chance to win every night."

"We knew (the other team) came to play, so we just had to be patient and wait for our chances. "

"We're happy to get the two points, but we know that the next game is just as important. We have to take it one game at a time."

For post-games the team has lost

"I thought we played well, we just didn't get the bounces."

"This team has too much talent to keep losing. We just need to keep working hard, taking it one shift at a time, and playing our game."

"Well, what can I say about (stupid nickname for goalie, usually taking first syllable of last name and adding "zie" or "zer") - he did enough for us to win tonight - we just couldn't come through for him."

55 points in 50 playoff games..
A point per game player over the past 3 seasons.
14 bad games , lets strip the C and trade him.

I am 100% against trading Giroux and I don't get people that ignore what he has done to this point based on this season alone.

Giroux and Voracek are the only 2 players with dynamic offensive skill on this team. Their is not a single other player that is close to a dynamic offensive player and that is the problem.

- opeth_pa

That's the part that baffles me -- if there's anybody on this roster who's proven what they are, it's Giroux. A PPG player over three consecutive seasons, and more than that in the playoffs...and we want to trade him after 15 games in a bad season?

He's proven what he is, against all kinds of competition, and, again, is 25 years old. A guy who plays in all situations?

And that's the guy some of us want to trade? Good Lord.

You trade anybody BUT Giroux, and you get better pieces to play WITH him. That's what needs to happen!

They had been very focused and energetic on the ice and keeping things loose and humorous in the locker room until the last few days. Today they looked pretty weary and there weren't a lot of smiling faces.

Berube had been skating the team real hard at practice almost every day -- bordering on bag skates some days -- but today he scaled it way back. That's probably mainly due to having an afternoon game tomorrow.

a trade here and there will do nothing, we need a blockbuster and rebuild, the only guy in the league that would instantly change our offence would be ovie, other then that i say ill continue to dream to try and get a weber, pietranglo or oel and build from back out, though this kinda move is a pipedream, it looks like were stuck this year with what we got

For the most part, yes. But there are some players -- Mike Knuble was the best I've spoken to -- who are good at stepping outside the cliches and giving you some actual insight about where things went right or wrong. Hal Gill is good at it, too. Ditto Kimmo Timonen when he feels like talking (which has been infrequent lately because he's unhappy with himself above all else and he'd rather say nothing at all than BS you).

Bill, how is it possible that this team isn't even playing fundamental offensive hockey?

It's hard to argue for big trades when this team....specifically these players (other than the few additions) have played well together, have been offensive producers in the past.

It's mind boggling to me that they can't score but I can't advocate for a tear down and rebuild. Maybe a little further into this season but not now.

I hate to say it because its painful to watch but these players need to stay on this team and play every game until the work through this.

It would be widely unprecedented that a whole team forgets how to hockey for a whole season.
