What's up with the Sens? I thought they were supposed to win the President's trophy and Stanley Cup this year? Holy overrated. Just because they did 'sort of' good last year the expectations were unreasonably high. They should be battling for 3rd in the Atlantic with the Leafs/Habs/Bolts.

is the stanley cup and president's trophy handed out in early november?

oh wait, you're a leafs fan.............

I still think they need to make a move to bring in a dynamic winger to play with Spezza, since Michalek is clearly no longer that guy. I think the defensive problems will be shored up and isn't a primary concern. Spezza looks lost on most nights with his linemates. People will argue that his point production is on pace for a standard Spezza year, but look at the goals he's scored- most have been tap-ins, empty nets, or flukes. He doesn't look like the dynamic player we know he can be.

I think he needs to step up his game, but I think adding a high level winger to his side will help spark him and accomplish that. Who to go after? No idea, but perhaps pull the trigger on a deal before the deadline

what about a trade involving michalek and gaborik? both are pending UFA's, both are unlikely to resign with their current teams.....could work. would prob have to be more assets involved, but gaborik could be awesome on spezza's wing

Would be interesting, but we'd have to sweeten that a little I would think.

I was thinking more of a low cost fix, a guy like Hemsky in EDM or Versteeg in FLA. Both right wingers who have the potential to be dangerous with a passer like Spezz.

Honestly, I've always been a huge supporter of Mike Cammalleri as a sniper. Guy has a wicked release, and may still have some left in him with a guy like Spezza giving him passes. It's a lot of money, but he's on the last year of his contract. Not sure what it would take to make it happen, but I imagine some youth or picks may intrigue Calgary.

One stat before I leave, Ottawa GF GA - 46-48. Toronto GF GA 48-36. This is all that really matters. Talk puck possession all you want Yost...have to keep the puck out.

Leafs get unsustainable goaltending numbers in early season, Toronto fans think getting outshot badly is fine. geeze

Those splits look good now yes, but either you accept that those save percentages will most likely fall or the leafs have NHL record breaking goaltending...

If you look at the rebuild on a long term basis I have never thought of Spezza as part of the solution. This is a very young team. Spezza is 6 to 9 years older than the core group.

I do strongly believe in the need for veteran presence on a team, but I despise players older than 30 being given retirement contracts.

I would not trade Spezza before the end of the season. But, I would not make any decions to try and obtain a significant asset to play on Spezza's wing. I would trade Spezza in the off season unless he is open to signing at a realistic contract number for a realistic term.

Lots of crappy shots - better goaltending, leafs will be fine IMO

We still have lots to do to even think about winning a series against the top teams.

Lots of practice time this year - hopefully we can get our D performing a little better

Spezza would look good in blue and white playing with Kessel

Karlsson for Gaborik?

Not sure I trade Karlsson for anybody (maybe Stamkos). Right now, he is only 6 points back of Crosby in the overall scoring.

I think he can finish top 5 in scoring.

I just meant it won't be Michalek for Gaborik straight up, I think CBJ gave up a lot to get him.

Probably 6 or 7 Leafs games so far The shot quality argument is pretty weak..., it's not so much luck as getting incredible goaltending thus far, and having some very capable scorers. They got outshot by Calgary and Edmonton, two teams who aren't that good. Then they play Vancouver and are totally outclassed the whole game almost and outshot badly. That's not a strategy, and their are certainly not doing it on purpose.

Can't honestly expect .930+ from BOTH goalies can you?

If they keep shooting front the side boards and the blue line......YES

We looked bad against Van and maybe 2 other games this year, I don't mind the shots as long as they are not constant 2 on 1 or 3 on 2's etc.

Shots like the 1 Karlsson scored against CBJ will not go in on the Leafs

Not every game but lots of games the shots are like 9-3 after 10 or 15 mins and it feels like the leafs have had the better chances.

Keep dreaming. They gave him the C because they want him to sign a contract soon. He too missed all of last year and his second half of the season will be much better then the first.
