Liles and Matt have the same contract so why are we giving up 2 2nds? |

I guess we'll find out on Friday... it sounds like the only option barring a trade... and really, who's against giving a young guy a shot? What if he actually plays well enough? You have to take the chance or go the trade route... which means you're going to give up something you probably don't want to... - SofaKingBored
Making trades out of desperation usually ends up costing the team, if you can find a stop gap, someone who needs a change of scenery might be the way to go instead of a bigger deal that may turn into a disaster. |

so what....
they don't have to play together, and Dion's married and all grown up now.
probably , if true - stems from Dion being made captain and Luke feeling shafted.
alot of water under the bridge since that time, and I'm guessing that Luke would love to get out from under the train wreck that is Philly currently. |

Philadelphia would make that trade.... the Leafs wouldn't... it would take more to get Gardiner... - SofaKingBored
Really? If the Leafs were offered that they run and laugh. |

Though I realize you're joking, I wonder if the Leafs would be more likely to get some business done if you offered something like Jake Gardiner for Brayden Schenn. - AllInForFlyers
leafs are not going to trade gardiner this soon.
instead of schenn, leafs would look at couturier - i'm not saying that it would be that trade, but flyers need to shake things up..
who are flyers going to trade if not couturier (they will hold onto both schenn's, or trade both brothers away at once; i don't see the leafs looking into that (edm/win might do so however)).
what would you think couturier's trade value is at this point? (taking into account flyer's difficult negotiation position) |

Very reasonable response... are you a troll in sheep's clothing or actually a quality poster? You have me confused... I will proceed with caution before inviting you in for tea - SofaKingBored

I like talking hockey, and I promise, since I'm in your forum, I'm not starting any trouble.
Clearly, the Leafs need another center. The Flyers could really use a mobile defenseman with upside. I doubt they'd move Couturier -- they really, really like him. But with us having Scott Laughton in the pipeline and our defense being ridiculously slow, I'd think they'd move Schenn for a defenseman of roughly the same age, with roughly the same upside.

Yep, agreed... so give the kid a shot... put him with Lupul and Clarkson or Kulemin and Raymond since that's probably a better line defensively... see what he does... |

Indeed. That's Burke was anxious to deal Luke. Lucky for us, JVR was available. So Leafs getting JVR was a result of a rift between Luke & Dion. Leafs got pretty lucky. |

I disagree... at best, it's a even trade... one for one like Luke and JVR... |

For me, I just don't think the Flyers would move Couturier in-season -- they are pretty much going to look at him this entire 82-game season, unless they get overwhelmed with an offer.
Now, next offseason, depending on how horrific this year goes -- and it's looking pretty horrific, in any number of ways -- I have absolutely no doubt that the Flyers General Store will be open for business, with all offers considered.

Yeah, they'd move Schenn before Couturier... I agree there... and yeah, they could definitely use Gardiner and what he will become (who couldn't?)...

If you go back and look, the goalies were the first star in most of the wins, that tells you a lot. |
