thank you for the video with the pause.... at the beginning of the eight second lupul elbow is tucked and his shoulder is lined up for the hit... halfway through the eighth second sedin cuts in.... at the end of the eighth second Lupul elbow is out.... Pretty much a reaction to missing his hit that tool place in less than a second so not premeditaded but still looks bad and if he had connected a long suspension for sure.....
Glad to see the west coast media is as biased as the west coasters complain about the east coast media..... I guess the only difference is we don't care or follow the west coast media... - jribout
I didn't read the blog. Is it suspendable as the NHL currently hands out discipline? I doubt it.
That just shows that the disciplinary system is flawed however. In order to properly clean up the game they need to penalize intent as well IMO. |

It's just a debate. Are you OK with someone going after Kessel like that and just missing? What if he lands it? |
|
|
|
You Toronto fans are awesome. So, to clarify, unintentional play causing accidental injury is worse than a intentional attempt at injuring a player but missing?
In your world, accidentally killing someone should lead to life in prison and attempted murder should be thought of as "no harm done"
TO fans are so whiny, just like the team. Throwing their arms up after every penalty, no matter how blatant it was - kneughter
Toronto fans are whiny.. yet you're one of many Vancouver fans spending your day after a win in a Toronto forum crying about a hit that didn't happen.
oh the irony. |

Seriously, not using this play as an example would you not agree not penalizing intent is part of the NHL justice problem? |

Both medias suck .
You are missing the point of what second the elbow came out. You have to get rid of the thinking that it is ok to throw and elbow at any point.Elbows are meant ot injure. It should be an automatic suspension for any player , anywhere, anyplace. - VANTEL
Agreed but there is a difference between pre meditated and reactionary..... one is much dirtier and would deserve a much more serious punishement...... I do not think I missed the point I said had he hit him it deserved a serious supsension |

Yeah, Lupul hits him to the shoulder with his elbow, what a big (frank)ing meanie he is.
STFU, Kassian put the guy out for who knows how long - imagine if it was the other way around
Edit: oops sorry Leafman I am done on the kick
(frank) you want Lupul suspended for a reaction play - talk about (frank)ing whining |

No one is saying it WILL be a suspension. But it IS dirty, and these types of plays should be discussed (by the league) and some future action should be taken. |

Again there is a huge difference between "I am going to friggin crush this guy with my elbow" which definitely = intent
to
"oh poop I am going to miss my hit and he is going to get a clear shot from the slot" and a reactionary extension of the arm which creates and elbow or a clothesline.....
both punishable... not nearly the same with regards to intent |

there should be more hugging in hockey and more butt slapping too. |

I'm pretty sure a reactionary clothesline is as bad as just about anything else. |

It was a careless play by Lupul, luckily there was no damage done.
The one thing I found odd about the game was, the refs had no problem calling the hits from behind but missed a blatant hit by Sedin against Ranger that was worse than most of the hits from behind the Leafs got, and seconds later, the other Sedin hit Kadri from behind but not as bad. Ref had a clear view of the Ranger hit.
Probably wouldn't have made a difference but you can't let one go and then call the rest. - LeafMan

I am not disagreeing. Lupul is not that type of player. It was a reaction to the emotion of the game.
What I am saying is that has to be removed from hockey. It should be punished at every level and be taken out of the thinking of a player.
This BS that is trained in players starting at early levels of hockey of trying to injure someone needs to be taken out of the game. Same as headshots are being taken out of football, elbows have to be removed from hockey.
