I certainly would guess that the new-franchise entrance fee would not be part of HRR - that's all goes to the owners. - StLBravesFan
Interesting take Saint. What I am certain of is there will be some sort of legal battle. They are paying an entry fee to.. you know..own a hockey team. |

Agreed....but still don't see being in cap hell because of these deals......from all indications it will be over 70 million next year and close to or at 80 the following year. Revenue streams from TV contracts, merchandise, winter classic, outdoor series, etc plus the owners getting a bigger percentage will make this possible. - UnnamedSource
$80 million by summer of 2015? I don't know about that. That seems pretty high to me, especially with a part of the owners definitely crying poor and actually meaning it.
I would think that the cap being at $70 million again come the summer of 2014 is pretty believable, with another $2 to $4 million raise for the summer of 2015. |

Unfortunately for us, neither Perry/Getzlaf or Sedin/Sedin can claim 2 Stanley Cups and 2 Conn Smythe's between them. Those things = $$$$$ - Ogilthorpe2
Agreed. However, in order for the team to stay competitive, Toews & Kane are going to have to make some sort of sacrifice salary wise. Unless two Cups are enough for those two.
If we start a pool, mark me down as those two getting a cap hit of $8.3 million per season over 8 years. That's my guess. That would put both of them in the top 10 cap hits in the league. |

I think it's too big of a number not to have been specifically addressed in the CBA - and I think the owners would not even entertain any thoughts of sharing it with the players.
Two teams? Could be more than $500MM - $20MM per team or so. |

Maybe I was a little over zealous on my prediction.....but it wouldn't surprise me if it does.

8x8. If that isn't enough for the boys. Send their asses to Buffalo and Winnipeg for nothing but picks. A lot of picks. They were paid a lot of money at a very young age. If that doesn't earn you some loyalty, (frank) em. Send them to hockey hell. |

I agree to a certain extent. I would think the union thought the same way. Fehr is a lot of things. An idiot isn't one of them though. |

Friedman stated on Sportsnet 590 that individuals within the league believe the salary cap could rise as high as $80 million within the next four seasons.
I can buy into the idea that the cap could hit $80 million by 2017 (4 summers from now). If the cap hits $70 million by the summer of 2014 and adds an average of $3.3 million every summer for 2015, 2016 & 2017, the cap will hit $80 million. |

But I don't think HRR was ever considered part of HRR.
Players would be much better off to "demand" moving some low-revenue teams - Phoenix, in particular - to higher-revenue cities. |

Bill Wirtz, is that you speaking from the grave?
$8 million per season is also a fair guess. |

That team had so much talent, you and I could have coached them to a Super Bowl. I firmly believe if Jimmy Mac had stayed healthy. they win at least 2. That guy was a computer at reading defenses. Sweetness still had a couple of good years left. *sigh* |

When I drink, I don't make much sense.
Unfortunately, I don't drink - so I can't blame it on that.
Meant: I don't think that new franchise fees were ever part of HRR. |

I couldn't let that pass. Sadly, I am old enough to know what you meant. I frequently make the same mistakes. I blame it on the 70's.
It will be interesting to find out if it included or not. |

Not really. There's a possibility that it could happen before the 4 year mark.
However, I'll take that Snickers action betting that it won't hit the $80 million mark by the summer of 2015. |

No, it's a king sized Snickers. I've already lost one to him.

'61 Hawks had talent: should have won a couple.
''69 Cubs had talent: should have won a couple (excellent pitching, excellent balance).
Even after blowing the NLCS in 1984, the Cubs had the best pitching in the league going into 1985: Eckersley, Trout, Sutcliffe, Sanderson, Ruthven. Every one got hurt in 1985.
It's hard to put together a good string - the margin of error - even for the best teams - is so narrow that it doesn't take much to throw it all off track. |
