Should've just drafted Ryan Murray.
- TheJerseyDevil1

Edmonton has a history of ruining young players.

They should have traded the pick or taken a defenseman.

Just ask Dreger! They would also refuse Reimer for Yak!

Russians aren't winners, I mean how many actually have their name on the cup... 3-5 I'm guessing.

There are only a few thousand names on it, so I'm going to say you're wrong.

No not really if we had taken Murray Schultz wouldn't have come
And Schultz Yakupov<
- Oilers42

Schultz doesn't know how to play defense and that is what the team lacks

Don't see Yak moving. However, the Pena have lots of talent on D. Would like to see if the Oil could put together a deal to land someone like Niskenen.

If I were Edmonton I wouldn't do Reimer, gardiner + 1st for yakupov.
- dshiddy

That would be a horrible trade for the Leafs. You clearly do not watch hockey at all

Yeah, that IS what they lack, but not at the expense of something we only have one of (a quality young puck-mover with near-elite offensive instincts).

I probably wouldn't do it, but mainly cause it doesn't fill a need. We have a near copy of Gardiner in Schultz, and about an equally proven goalie in Dubnyk (albeit he HAS struggled, but he's begun turning it around). It's not that the value's off; just the wrong pieces.

Gards would be better suited in Edmonton and out of the spotlight in Toronto. Reimer is most likely a major upgrade over Dubnyk. Toronto would be getting royally screwed if they made that trade

Vyacheslav Kozlov, Sergei Fedorov, Igor Larionov, Viacheslav Fetisov, Vladimir Konstantinov, and Pavel Datsyuk have all won at least 2 Cups... Just to name 6...

He may be out of one spotlight, but it's not like Edmonton isn't in a spotlight. One of the most hockey-crazed markets there is because there's (frank) all else to do around there! And I highly doubt Reimer would be a MAJOR upgrade. Likely AN upgrade, but not as significant as you- and many others- think.

We do? Examples? Lemme guess...schremp? Bonsignore? Not sure we have any worse a track record than any other team to be honest, and that includes the Canucks.

You must be joking. Besides the fact that you haven't done your research there are a couple factors to consider.
1) The KHL is attracting some of the best veteran Russian players because it pays well and is home to the athletes.
2) Russians had to defect ( risky and dangerous) to play here prior to the wall coming down.

Basically that leaves about 20 yrs of Russian History in the NHL and in that time there were a crapload of Russian NHLers that won the cup.

Alex Mogilny, Sergei Brylin, Nicolai Khabibulin, Vlad Malakov, Sergei Nemchinov,Sergei Zubov, Val Kamenski,Alex Karpatsev, Alex Kovalev....all seemed like winners to me at one point or another. This guy is a clueless troll.

I wouldn't pay much for Reimer after his second head injury. Not to mention I don't think head and shoulders above Dubnyk right now.
