Keep in mind shots fired that miss the net wide are not recorded... We have been shooting quite a bit. What we haven't been is on target.

Fair enough, as with Blocked shots, but still, to have our top player tied for 106 says a lot about how few shots are taken overall...I do remember the first or second game that they had 30-40 total shots in the first, but only 15 on net.

I guess I should say..shoot on net...hell any of us can "shoot" and hit nothing...

Agreed. Granted, the Flyers most likely would have picked a "gifted 2-way center" with the pick, but either Carlson or Markstrom would have been nice. Of all of Homer's moves, that's probably the worst one, and even the Homer haters seems to sorta gloss over it.
- jmatchett383

probably because it was eminger that got moved. if he was a bigger name, it would get brought up more.

I prefer "shoot the goalie in the face!"
Alas, no one listens to me.

I do agree it's worrisome. Just the numbers can be misleading.

Speaking of interesting #'s I find it hysterical that point wise we are at the bottom of the league but our goalie is falling out in the middle of the pack even with the play in front of him.

They actually are recorded and tracked (along with blocked shots) by some people.

But those people are in hiding because it's witchcraft and not on an NHL Game Summary sheet.

FWIW Here's one man's thoughts on where the Flyers should go from here:
- BiggE

1. Put a 'FOR SALE' sign on everybody over the age of 27,

2. Keep Schenn in the middle and give Couturier some decent wingers for once,

3. Move Giroux to Vinny's wing... (yeah, you read that right),

5. Continue to play the hell out of Gus,

6. Fire Homer before he can hurt the team again on July 1.

Targeting UFA's is absolutely a plan. And is a large part of how teams fill needs. They have a potential top pair player in Schenn. They also have Morin who has tons of potential. Along with Haag, Ghostibhere, and Alt. Why has the team slid backwards is the issue. One of the reasons, and probably the biggert reason is the injury to Pronger. But that is somehow Holmgren's fault I guess. And also why have they had trouble scoring at 5 on 5. That is not on the GM. That's on the previous Coach and the players. Unless you think it's Holmgren's fault that Giroux, Voracek, Read and Hartnell have scored zero goals combined in 8 games so far this Season. Here's what I have tracked. The Flyers franchise defenseman suffered a career ending injury. That led to Holmgren trying to obtain Shea Weber. And he was willing to risk losing Carle to do so. I stand behind him in that. Even though it failed. And the reason why is because if you do lose Carle, it's not the end of the World. You can replace Carle, as they did with adding Striet. He's a step below as an overall player to Carle, but he replaces the offensive production, and is a better PP QB and goal producer from the back end. And opportunities to go after a player like Weber don't come around that ofen. And you know where "nuff said" comes into play? How you have to make this more about me then Holmgren.

it's about the opinion you represent and your apparently OCD fueled inability to let some things go in the face overwhelming evidence of the GMs ineptitude over the last few seasons...simply because you can't bear the thought of losing an argument.

i see twitter convos all the time that used to take place here...hmmm...wonder why???

1. agreed for the most part, though I'd hang on to VL and Talbot. Good luck finding any takers for Streit

2. Yes

3. Yes, my thoughts exactly

6. Sadly yes, overall he's had a good run, but I'm ready for the Hextall era to begin.

FWIW Here's one man's thoughts on where the Flyers should go from here:

1. Don't rush into any panic trades or make a trade just to shake things up. Give Berube at least 20 games or so before making any moves.

2. Leave Brayden Schenn at center, he just looks better there than on wing.

3. When VL and Hartnell return, assuming all other forwards are healthy, go with the following lines.
Hartnell-VL-Giroux

- BiggE

Vinny would be the RW on that line. He has the better shot and they're not going to move Giroux out of the position he has been brilliant at for the last three seasons.

Vinny has also struggled on faceoffs here so far.

Schenn has really been poor as a center thus far in his career. I'm willing to let him continue to try and develop (and accept the rookie mistakes), but at some point, there may be a full-time conversion to winger.

Giroux's feeling the pressure of not having other guys step up. It's tough to create offense when you're constantly being flanked by 2-3 guys from the opposition.

Sean Couturier is such a special player. His value is right up there with Giroux's when you consider the defensive value and future potential.

I have to agree that G is almost always heavily covered by the other teams best defenders. If he's drawing the heat then someone else needs to make it happen. And that's been a big part of our problem. Another reason why I want Vinny back so badly...
Eventually they will begin to loosen up on G and then he's gonna rock them...

we are seeing the results of this trade come home to roost this season

those 1st rounders would be on their entry level deals and contributing right now

not to mention the ill fated move of trading the late 1st round pick the prior year? for Eminger... it turned into John Carlson

- Marc D

that one haunts me

i just reminded my husband about that one last week

I was never a subscriber of the belief that the Flyers fell apart because Pronger went down.

If that were the case, they would not have ended up with 113 points in the 2011-12 season, the year Pronger was hurt and played only 13 games. What I do believe is that the trickle down effect of the trade hurt them more in the long run than losing Pronger himself. A pair of first rounders, depth and youth in Lupul and Sbisa, plus two additional first round picks (and as we all know the guy selling nachos could've picked better at that time than Homer after the first round).

Additionally, because Homer felt the need to get another home run hitter at all costs (and it did cost) instead of focusing on realistically replacing the void with a more well rounded defensive group, we've struggled since.

- 77rams

They've been slowly going backwards since Pronger was injured. If 11/12, the Flyers had a better Timonen and Carle to better off set the loss. There is no way that the assets they gave up in the trade have hurt them more then the loss of Pronger. Pronger was a franchise defenseman and a game changer. No guarantee that the first round picks would have panned out. And Lupul and Sbisa aren't that good that having them would be better then having Pronger. I can't agree on this one.
