bill,
i understand you not wanting to be disrespectful, but if he was good at his job the team would not be LAST in the league after a cup final appearance 2 seasons ago.
it's be better just to omit any value judgement and write "his moves didn't work out" or some other observation. homer is a good buy by all accounts, but saying he is not bad at his job, when every hockey fan in the world can point to 100 mistakes he has made, is kind of disrespectful to the fans of the team.

- hogweed

To say he's bad at his job overlooks what he inherited at the time he became GM, the team's quick turnaround, Finals appearance and back-to-back 100 point seasons (with a playoff series win over the pre-playoff Cup favorites) before the struggles of the last season-plus.

The truth of the matter is that the club had a window of opportunity when Pronger and Timonen were the blue line anchors, and that window closed when Pronger's career ended prematurely and Timonen got a few years older and increasingly banged up. They haven't had a successful succession plan and that, more than Bryzgalov and more than everything else that gets thrown out there, had been the number one reason for the downturn.

Ron Hainsey would have been a solid addition as he is anchoring the Canes defence right now and is playing outstanding. There is a great puck moving dman available from the Coyotes right now named David Rundblad, a healthy scratch. Very average on D but would certainly be the Flyers best puck mover, similar to Gustafsson but even better with the puck. The Flyers D, namely Coburn, Grossman, Schenn and even Streit are treating the puck like a hand grenade right now. Bring in Rundblad at 670 grand, they do not come any cheaper than that. He just needs a break.

right but to have that window, then have the things happen you rightly mention, requires a response; his responses for the most part have been ineffective. i'm not suggesting you, or anyone, say he is bad at his job; what i'm saying is don't say he isn't bad at it and instead just don't make a judgement that is arguable if not questionable

Rundblad is 23 years old; what do you propose the Flyers trade for him? The Coyotes aren't going to give him away.

Giroux's hand injury should be fully healed by now.

could have been if he had not perhaps tried to come back too soon. which is certainly what it looks like.

Rundblad has never shown more than potential when it comes to puck handling. He 4 points in 24 games with Ottawa in 10-11. He had 3 points in 6 games in 11-12 with Phoenix. He had 1 point in 8 games for Phoenix last year. He has no points in 3 games this year and is a healthy scratch. His stats tell me that his "great puck moving" can't even crack him into a permanent NHL roster spot. If you really think he'd be our best puck mover (putting him ahead of Streit and Timonen) I think you're sorely mistaken. Also, if you think Streit has been a poor puck handler this year, I have to question f you even watch any Flyers games, or if your opinions are all formed on conjecture.

Holmgren is actually very bad at his job.
- isles10289

As oppose to Garth Snow who just loses continually? All the while stock piling draft picks from his less than stellar team performances? I mean come on, I could do that and get it right over the same amount of time he's been there.

He signed Matt Moulson as a UFA and plucked Grabner on waivers, a solid seven years of work right there.

I just finished listening to Flyers Buzz and Bill talked about needing grit in the third line.

Could McGinn or Hartnell be the guy to play with Couturier and Read when he is fit again?

Hey Flyers fans I don't watch many of your games and I require help for fantasy;

Should I drop Mark Streit? Best FA options are Carlson, Beauchemin or Bieksa.

+/- doesn't count only goals and assists

- FinAddict

You should drop every flyer you have. They do not score

The Flyers goal scoring can only get better, and the coaching staff might have finally realized Streit should be running the top PP unit instead of Kimmo.

So I would hang to Streit for a little longer.

I would do it. He's adding no dynamic to the scoring lines whatsoever. I'm so sick of him skating to the slot and waiting for the other players to get him the puck.

that's been my contention. they were so dependent on on their aging top 2 dmen that to move out the amt of talent they have since the big trades and not have anything to show for it on D other than schenn is a failing...that and the reactionary nature of subsequent deals.
