I love you. My hope for weber had died.. but now you have rekindled it. Thank you sir.

Too bad we didn't get Bobby Ryan....

Yeah no one wanted him, they think he was average & Getzlaf & Perry made him etc

My main point was that he got paid 27 million from the time he was signed to the deal to July 1, 2013. thats a lot of money. I can't see Nashville moving him.

that franchise is almost broke. many people think they cannot afford $70 mil on one guy from a business standpoint. i think they would need to bring in another top player to make it make sense. drafting jones makes it possible to trade weber without a significant drop off on D from a theoretical perspective

Isn't streit an over 35 contract to?
- Flyersgod

Old habits die hard, like I said in a previous post, we are the only team that should get 2 CBO's a year.

Having Seth Jones allows them to deal one of the top 5 D men in the league?

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Let Suter AND Weber go in the same summer, and they risked incensing their fan base with their margins already razor thin in that market.

Things might have been different if Jones was their 2012 pick... they might have been able to let Weber walk then, from a fan-relations point of view.

What about the great Mark Streit??
- Vukota

It's interesting, but I have not had any complaints about Streit. He's not as bad as Islanders fans made him out to be. I was expecting the speed of Hatcher, and the hands of Rathje.. all packed into a small frame. The way people went on about him, I was surprised he was the captain.

He's been $5.25M/year good?

At best, I'd say he's earning $2.5M on the attacking side of the puck, and defensively he probably shouldn't be in the league at all. Marc-Andre Bergeron would have provided the same for under $1M.

The issue I have had with him is what we pay him as you say.. I think he isa solid puck mover and PP guy though.

In retrospect, we should probably have not signed either him or Vinny (although I do like Vinny) and just played Lauridsen to start a full rebuild. Hind sight is 20/20.

i called that trade "horrid" the day it went down and there's nothing i've observed since that makes me feel any different. really calls into question whether homer knows how to build a team anymore. he did it before, but maybe he had better pieces in place back in '07.

it was his neglect in getting a young dman that had him pull what i consider a knee-jerk move w/ JVR...even when he had carle in tow.

as i said, in theory. that market is not as savvy as other markets like here or toronto; selling them on trading weber by bringing in a top forward is a lot easier when combined with a top pick Dman who has the potential to be a stud. not saying it makes total sense just from a hockey standpoint but when you consider the financial strain his contract puts on the team, i think they will trade him but they will have to get a guy like giroux back.

Always said he was good on the PP but other then that he was pretty much useless. He was the captain because JT wasn't ready and he was pretty much the elder statesman on the team. He wasn't captain because of his talent that's for sure. Terrible in his own end and not sure if you have any buyouts left but if you did then I wouldn't be surprised if he is gone at years end. He'll only be getting worse in the next couple of years

No buyouts left. We're stuck with everyone we have unless we can trade them. I suspect this will be Hextall's team to fix by next season.

All excellent points!! Agree 100%!!
his injury saved himself, (I hate to put it in the way that it sounds), from the fans witnessing & booing, & criticizing his declining play, slow foot speed, what we gave up, etc
Did they really think they would be in a bidding war in giving him less than 5 years at over 35?

- puckhead17

Agreed. Although the contract was for 7 years, it was structured for him to play 5 years.

they owe him $70 million in the next 4 seasons. you think our deals are bad, how are they going to build a team with that a\mount going to one guy?

The same reason they paid him the what? $27 mill for 2 years?
Because there fan base will stop buying tickets if they move him, the Preds culture is all about defense, not much else.
Yes our deals are bad because we gave 1/2that much to a 35 year old D man that can't hit the net (so far), and hasn't defended very well either.
