I certainly like the idea of Vanek to the Flyers for Couturier or Schenn, ++.
That would work.
The Sabres would almost certainly have to eat part of Vanek's salary, or take on a salary dump from the Flyers to make the deal work with their cap situation.
They may not want to take Meszaros on, but it might be necessary to make the deal work financially. By doing that, they could ask for more (picks) as a result, and they could also turn around and trade Meszaros at the deadline to a contender as well.

Someone with common sense?
You cannot commit $9.5M for an eternity to one player who may or may not make your team better by himself.
That player would HAVE to make the entire team better merely by his presence.
I don't think Ovechkin does that anymore.

The roughest part of that deal would be giving up Pysyk, and the 2014 1st, but that would be a lower pick assuming Ovechkin had Buffalo in the playoffs all by himself which I highly doubt.

The Oilers dont have a 2nd rd pick so this trade could never happen right there is why farcy would nix the deal

I disagree. There are so many fans who have a problem with the "heart of the team" and how Vanek is so lazy and doesn't back check. Adding Ovi to this team would be like adding a better version of vanek. Sure he's talented but he'll get crucified for his lack of defense and such. Fans will be frustrated with him after a year.
