Barely a cup of coffee with oilers. we had a pretty good team in Binghamton. Ken Holland (now detroit GM) was our goalie.

Some nice hair there too.

your calling in hockey certainly didn't involve knuckle dragging and wood canes as first thought, and found a good niche/longevity in the sport my going the route you, and Mcclelland after you did....

what was your favorite Arena to Ref a game in?

Nice to have you here Paul. Interesting blog. I like your 'cards on the table' style.

Very interesting comments re: Colin Campbell and how to deal with people!

Paul, welcome to Hockey Buzz.
Think I'm going to enjoy this blog very much. Great story about the fan punching you in the face. And I like your sense of humor already.

My favorite Arena was and is MSG. The games usually ended at 9:30 and by 10 I was on 7th Ave with a full days meal money and New York stretched out in front of me, off to Il Vagabondo for a bocce ball and an Amaretto di Sarrano!

I actually liked the closeness of the fans to the ice, the whole atmosphere walking into the arena, kibitzing with the fans, stopping off to see Mike Cosby @ Gerry Cosby's and the special feeling of Hockey in Manhattan, The outdoor vendors with the pralines and the chestnuts...all of it. What history! Think about it: Tex Rickard, Ching Johnson, Rod Gilbert, Cat Francis, every great musical act. I think also of my pals Sam Rosen and Marvelous Marv Albert..

Even being from Boston, my first chance to wear an NHL uniform was at MSG and it's always a special place.

My least favorite arena had to have been the first rink the Lightning played in. No offence to Espo but the place was a barn. Yet after the game it was 60 degrees warmer than Winnipeg or Edmonton so I guess I could survive it.

With that said, actually, anytime I am in a rink, I am happy....NHL, KHL,ECAC....Iorio in Walpole.....or outdoors on Walman in Central Park or on Red Square in Moscow.

Just keep me skating!

Paul, how about a new rule to enforce? if you're not a teammate or someone you worked with at the rink, they call you Paul. how's that sound?

Lets see them enforce the current rules first. I'm still wondering what ever happened to that whole you need to drop the puck x amount of seconds after the whistle. That and you notice all those interference on the faceoff calls have disappeared?

Agreed. It's painful to read and feels disrespectful in the face of a total lack of a real relationship.

We used to have friends in common. I haven't seen or heard from them in years.

Coincidence?
