It's less to do with his slow start and more the fact that the team is loaded with offensive defensemen and could swap Gardiner for an area of need, like a young tough stay-at-home defenseman or a promising forward.

The heights and weights are all over the place. Typically they add at least an inch or more.. Weigh is a coin flip at best.

Gardiner - (MacWilliams, Percy) would be my top picks down the road.

Gunnarsson once Rielly is ready to take over can be traded. Next year imo or the year after.

I mentioned after Colbourne was shipped (given away) to Calgary for next to nothing, that Gardiner was next to go (& getting blasted for saying this). Carlyle makes it obvious when he doesn't like a player & that player doesn't stick around much longer.
Aside from this the Leafs have far too many offensive D men, but it is a huge risk to move Gardiner at a young age. I like the suggestion of trying him on wing.
If they weren't in a cap crunch, no thanks to Nonis for this, this wouldn't be a big an issue, but I hope they don't make a desperate trade - then things will go from bad to worse.

Im pumped for this game, I expect some solid goaltending from both teams, lots of big hits and at least 3 fights.
