Center is a premuim position, especially ones that play the kind of hockey he does, smooth skating defensemen that might eventually be able to play defense are not.

Hodgson was never going to be a canuck. Too much conflict between management and agent/daddy. Besides we couldn't fit his current salary under our cap so he was out of here anyway.
