Vanek covered no one on that play. Weber and Myers both hung back because our forwards weren't back far enough to cover the forwards. The defense can't let the play get behind them

You can pin the blame on any one of the 5 skaters on the ice you want. The fact remains it had more to do with poor execution than poor strategy.

I actually had it open though... I was checking Darnell Nurse's stats on the OHL pages, and noticed the center on his team was having a really good year so far... I was curious if he was projected to go in the first round, and oddly enough he's currently projected to be taken by Edmonton at #14...

I agree but IMO it's poor execution on the forwards more than the defensemen. There hasn't been too many bad giveaways by our defensemen. Mainly poor coverage by our forwards

I'm assuming you'd target Reinhart?

I'm surprised to see Ekblad ranked at #6 right now.

Probably. Wouldn't be suprised if we end up with Ritchie at the 3-5 spot. Big winger who could replace Vanek

Yeah, that would be a good pick

Oilers could definitely use someone like that

Has a Citys NHL and NFL team ever had the 1st overall pick in draft in the same year before?

Not sure. I don't expect the Bills to fall past the Jags. Or the Steelers for that matter. Our defense with Byrd and Gilmore back will win us a game or 2 on their own

1965 - New York (Rangers/Giants)
2001 - Atlanta (Thrashers/Falcons)

I think that's it.

I have only placed 1 bet in my life that was the Sabres to win the cup at 40 :1 the year of No Goal

I agree it's a long shot for the Bills, but my wife is going to vegas tomarrow and I think its a safer bet than betting the Sabres to win the cup

Remember when there was that commercial where Philly went 82-0? All I think of is buffalo's commercial going 0-82

Except thats not how we operate in Buffalo. Its: Just bad enough to miss playoffs and just good enough to not get a great pick.

We look bad now, wait for the late season rush out of last place.

Absolutely this^

I wouldn't mind absolutely sucking this year if it means we get a top 5 pick. What really pisses me off is the constant sense of false hope that the team gives us; even last night was a perfect example. Miller's playing incredibly, but go figure we get scored on with one minute left. It's the same old bullpoop that we have to put up with year after year. We need to swallow our pride and pull off a Pittsburgh/Chicago tanking if we ever want to become successful.
