Have you given it a shot? I didn't get into it until the 5th season, and I ended up going on a 42-episode (around 1 hour each episode) long tear over 4 days in order to catch up. It's absolutely outstanding, and has enough scientific information to appease the "nerd" side of everyone.

It's on Netflix, if you have it. They have up to the end of season 4, last time I checked. You wouldn't regret it if you gave it a shot, IMO. One of the few shows that actually got better as the seasons went along, rather than deteriorating.
