I respectfully disagree. Tavares is probably the 3 or 4 best player in the world right now - PtotheY
Its comments like these that make me rant about how deluded the commentor is. 3 or 4th best player in the world? Exactly how? Because you watch him and he's so exciting and skillful? There is a long list of players that are better than him, including many players that may not look as skilled when you watch them on TV but they have consistently put up top numbers. Getzlaf, Perry are regular names that I would even rank above Tavares right now. JT has only played 4 years in the league. 1/2 of that time, he had mediocre numbers, the other 1/2 he has had good numbers. He hasn't even hit GREAT numbers and you wanna give him TOP 5 in the world? Tell you what, when he is centering the 4th line on Team Canada, or better yet, when he is forced to play wing, maybe then you'll understand that the depth of Great players is a lot bigger above him than you think.
Here's an even better example. If JT was an unrestricted free agent right now, do you honestly think he would get a $9M dollar contract? Not even close. Tavares would probably command a contract thats about $7M per year, AND thats based solely on speculating future performance. If you signed him to a contract just based on past production (as an arbitrator would do), he would probably be around $6-6.75M. |

Excellent post...good to know the Flyers have NO elite players. - DONMURDOCH14
Why would more than a handful of teams have truly elite players at any one time? Obviously the Flyers don't have an elite defenseman. Their elite defenseman is still having such problems with PCS he can't even do off-ice management stuff on a regular basis.
And Giroux may be elite, he certainly is special. But no one else comes close. But I don't think there are many truly elite players in the league at any one time. |

With Kreider not in the lineup tonight with all the other regulars, I am curious if he may be the odd man out when the season starts. |

You're the one that said you would rather have Stepan than Tavares. Ranger fans are saying that JT is one of the best. Stop talking about something as stupid as a contract. Who cares? He's not an UFA now so what difference does it make.

Anyone think we'll lose any of the 4 put on waivers? Ottawa put Jim O'brien on waivers too, about the only interest players put on waivers today. |

6.5/2 years is the number being thrown around on twitter. - rangerdanger94
That's the correct number, they split the difference.
Rangers were offering 6, he wanted 7. |

The best GM in the league is Ken Holland. - blacksheep1
Hurts me to say it, but I think Holland lost the first place.
Sammy, Tootoo, Cleary, Colaiccovo signings the past 2 years are pretty bad.
And he missed out on Suter as well. |

I think we'll see a good effort out of both teams tonight playing in front of their former coaches. Hoping for some fireworks and excitement especially as I watch the Yankees and thoughts of hanging myself creep in. |

How can you blame him for not signing Suter, when both Suter and Parise made an agreement to play in the same place. Like the Brad Richards signing with the Rangers, the fix was in on Suter. |

One of the greatest things I've ever seen in sports, Pettitte and Jeter coming to get Mariano in the 9th inning tonight. Even if you're not a baseball fan, you should really watch it if you didn't see it. |

although it was a legit lucky bounce and definite interference on hank - Mtlca66
Idk how that wasn't waived off. Both Bieksa and Kesler bumped Lundqvist. Clearly impacted his chance of stopping the 2nd chance. |

Don't know if it was discussed but Stepan back loaded his deal so his qualifying offer in 2 years will be $4.1M |
