stepan is not elite but he's a very good hockey player similar to how callahan is a very good hockey player. stepan has great vision, a high hockey iq, enough skill to put the puck where he wants when he passes, and is excellent defensively (who remembers him picking chara's pocket behind the bruins' net and scoring?).

stepan will never by as dynamic as tavares, crosby, stamkos, etc. because he's not a good enough skater, he doesn't have the speed, and he doesn't have the hands to dangle like them. but as a center, he's a very good hockey player but not elite.

He did that against the Pens too and CLowe had a tap in.

I never once mentioned the word Elite. I responded to people saying that Tavares is among the class of players like Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Stamkos. And the fact is he isn't. Right now, is among the 2nd tier of Elite players just below those guys who score 100+ points regularly or as I mentioned 50-60 goals regularly (in Stamkos' case).
- xcheckmajor

i put tavares up there with malkin, stamkos, crosby, ovechkin.

again, you severely underestimate the extent as to which those guys you classify as 1st tier elite guy's teammates help them.

Holly tits! I totally said the exact same things in a post here sometime earlier this week and everyone was telling me I was out of place and that I didn't knew anything about hockey. Right hein, I guess that's the case for all canadians...they don't know jack about their own sport.

For rivalry reasons, because I was a victim of those biased fans.... I even said about rick nash being the most overrated and Richards just simply underperforming... I guess now you have a taste of your own medicine. Are you fans ready to revisit or at least imagine a better team by trading one of the top two superstars on your team for someone else that could bring more grit and have better chemistry with the other superstar?

thought this was funny considering the debate going on here today:

"He's definitely an elite center in the NHL, a big piece to this puzzle, so it's good to have him back"-Rick Nash on @DerekStepan21 return

Top five goalies next year
1. Hank
2. Quick
3.Rinne
4. Rask
5. Price

- mighty13duck

Price over Anderson, Niemi, Luongo...and the list could go for another 5 spots before Price should be named. This list is simply a terrible prediction.

Nope, you clearly said Turris and Z-bad were better. Got back to watching those 20-30 point players.

He actually said Turris and Z-bad were better than Stepan. Plus he also thought Richards was tradable.

I am patiently waiting for a full season to take place to prove to you that Ottawa simply does not need Stepan. It wasn't about comparing players, but really y'all made it that. Turris is one of the best market price for talent players (best bang for your buck) in the league right now. I am not too worried about New York (centre of the world) fan base comments. I just know my team is much better than it was last season and that we don,t need Stepan and he wouldn't be a good fit on our team. He can only produce consistently 0.55 points per game. You can't possibly tell me that is elite center in the league. I mean this all way too laughable.

ottawa does not need stepan, because you guys have excellent center depth. but stepan might be an upgrade to either turris or Z or pageau at this point in time.

Turris @ .44 ppg.

But no worries, Kyle Turris now making 300k more than Stepan, is better. And he's produced less. But he's still better.

Yeah but Brian Murray is arguably the best GM in the league. If he sees more value in Stepan than his own player development team... he would of made an offer sheet. Problem is, his hockey sense is not willing to let go a first round 7th overall pick, a possible sleeper pick in Pageau and one of the best second line centers in terms of value for quality for someone who simply provides secondary scoring. Sens would trade those for a primary scoring player, but not secondary.
