He's still a bit behind the play, chasing chasing chasing, on both sides of the puck. He's not fast, nor a real threat to score from distance, so he'll have to get his IQ to the point where he's in the right spot before he has to be. Maybe that happens, maybe it doesn't.
Couturier's got the same problem, even though he's put up good numbers in preseason. He still gets turned too easily. - Tomahawk
Honestly though, working with Vinny this year could teach BSchenn that. And I really would have liked to have Gagne back as I think he too would have helped Coots out. |

does anybody play NHL 14 HUT?
The different level consumables are killing me. Plus, I can barely scrape together a NHL roster. I'm in division 7 right now, I think--maybe even 6. - KGBflyers10
I do all the time. I'm in division 3 as of today.. unfortunately you'll nee D to invest some for a good NHL roster... it wont happen by playing games alone. |

Hate that. They all but make it required to pay money in order to play a game mode on a the game I already spent $60 on. They need to make playing actual games more profitable. Maybe with things like a bigger stadium giving you more pucks per game. |

Aside from songwriting, hut is my primary hobby... so I put some $ into it. In a virtual sense I guess...paying for better players is like buying a better golf club? Haha
Either way it keeps me entertained and happy for the most part. |

I think Rinaldo brings energy every shift. You notice him out there.
He hasn't practiced or played in pre-season games to my knowledge. I would guess he's not going to be ready for the start of the season. - PLindbergh31
Rinaldo did play in the first pre-season game till he got hurt. I'm pretty sure he did go to Lake Placid with the guys and was skating in practice. It's possbile he was held out of last night's game for precautionary reasons more than anything else. It wouldn't shock me if he played in either Thurs or Fri's games.
I could of course be wrong. I'll have to go back and check some of Bill's write-ups. I know he mentioned him in at least one.
EDIT:
Bill mentioned him in his blog on Fri.

pre-broken face playoffs coburn is so much better than post-broken face playoffs coburn. - hammarby31
Generally, yes. However, i think the best hockey of his career was the 2010 SCF. He played like a true #1 defenseman in that series. Pronger and Timonen played like HOFers, but he was just behind them. |

I just make it a goal to ice an NHL roster without spending real money, rather than trying to get the most stacked team possible. |

If they're holding him out to make sure he's fully healthy, I'm 132% down with it. |

IMO, too much credit is given to whatever simplifications were made... fact is, with a ragtag D, the forwards had to be more conscientious about maintaining closer gaps because frankly there were a lot of guys behind them who they knew weren't able to thread a long pass through NHL defenders. The only adjustment they have to make to replicate the late-season recipe would be to bench any D for making more than a 12ft pass. - Tomahawk
The forwards didn't just decide to become more conscientous, the system play was changed. From the forecheck scheme, to the breakout scheme. The defenseman could make shorter passes because the forwards were coming back deeper in the defensive zone. In order for the defenseman to not make a pass longer then 12 feet, a target has to be available. Should the defenseman just eat the puck, because the forwards are up ice hanging in the neutral zone? |

Man, you're telling me. There's no physical reason why Braydon Coburn shouldn't be one of the Top 10 defensemen in hockey. And I think he plays hard enough to be that kind of player.
But man. There's just something missing, hockey sense-wise. I don't know what it is. There's no physical reason why Braydon Coburn shouldn't dominate. - AllInForFlyers
Coburn doesn't have anywhere near the skill level to be a top 10 NHL defenseman. Coburn is a solid defensive defenseman. Place Coburn on a team that plays like the Devils, and he'd flourish. |

Couturier has arguably been the team's best player through the pre season. He looks great so far. |

Pronger seemed like he played about 45 minutes a game; he was always out there. Was still ripping shots with a cannon. He annihilated Toews and Kane and was a terror in games 1-4. Big Buff ran him a couple times and it got him off his game a little towards the end.
Kimmo was out there like a wizard with the puck and being his usual odd-man rush destroyer.
Coburn was kind of a mix of the two; a top-notch jack of all trades who you could reliably put out at 5-on-5 and PK and not really worry about him, and it was by far the most physical he's ever played. |

Agreed, he's really stood out in every game I've watched. Last night, it seemed like he and Read were always the guys leading the rush up the ice. |

He got caught flat footed defending at the blueline in the 1st, got beat to the outside badly and was forced to take a penalty.
He's been good, but that doesn't mean he isn't still caught behind the play at times. |
